Meptid (meptazinol) is a strong pain reliever, an opioid, not usually a choice for RD or other autoimmune conditions as far as I'm aware. It's generally only used as a short-term solution & as we know RD is anything but a short term condition. Another reason is like most of this group you can become dependent on them. It won't ease inflammation so if you have any your Rheumy should be prescribing one for you.

Hope this is of some help.

Thank you , it's all up in the air at mom but GP wanted to get pain under control until all my test are back . They do seem to be easing the pain .

I'm surprised then, there are other pain relievers more suited & more commonly used short term whilst waiting for results to determine the possibility of RD, though your GP must have his reasons I'm sure. I was prescribed co-cocodamol & an NSAID for instance. As BoneyC says meptazinol is more often prescribed for labour pain, in a similar way to pethidine, though it is a slightly weaker opioid. It should definitely be easing your pain!

One concern may be the length of time it takes to be seen by a Rheumy. It's not always a speedy referral so you may find if you tolerate meptazinol & still taking it when/if you're referred to Rheumatology you may need to start to tapering it in plenty of time for your diagnostic appointment. This is one reason such strong pain relief isn't generally prescribed in such instances, if you're on it any length of time you can't just stop it. I say this because you really would be best off not being on any meds that may hinder a diagnosis, so no pain relief or NSAID so when your Rheumy examines you, has images & bloods taken so they are accurate readings for baseline values.
