Kitten Therapy

Hi, I had been doing pretty bad with the MTX recently and have had no energy to do things and no positivity or go. Has anyone else had this happen and any good ways to help stave off the issue. I at the moment am doing better as I feel happier and positive. I am looking after a tiny, itybity barn kitten, about a month or two old. Hopefully the positivity stays once I have to give this little fuzz ball back. Any ideas on keeping it going??

Yes Jjo, get yourself a dog,you have to care for them and walk them. Jack my rescue dog has made a great difference to my life, if you carnt get out at all get another kitten as you've already found a animal makes a big difference to our lives.Im very lucky my wife takes Jack out if I've run out of spoons ( energy)

Regards Mike

MTX made my RA worse and gave me depression.

Get yourself a pet of some sort. If you can't have one all the time can you look after other people's pets either at your home or theirs?

You have found your own solution! It's distraction that takes your mind of the illness and the depressing drugs we have to take for it... I always feel better for pushing myself out the door with my Tibetan Terrier, even a short stroll lifts my mood and usually someone stops for a dog chat... so adopt a kitty or hang onto the one you are fostering..they say stroking a cat/dog is mood changing and it certainly does. Good luck, hope you have a pain free weekend.

I reckon you have found an ideal solution. Kittens should be on prescription! As you can see from my profile picture I am owned by a shih tzu who rules us with a paw of iron. Like a benevolent dictator, really. She tells Himself when I'm awake and coffee is required, keeps us both moving and gives us something to motivate us to get out and about. As Kate says, if you don't want the commitment of your own dog borrowing a friend's or neighbour's could be a solution. There is an organisation called "borrow my doggie" which could be worth investigating. I love cats and they are less of a tie than dogs. I can't have any more as I have become allergic but perhaps keeping itty bitty barn kitten or fostering/adopting another would help. Wishing you well

Unfortunately I have been on it since I was 12 with a small break for about a year, when I went to college. I do have a 3 dogs at home, I may be 23 but I still live at home so thankfully their are others to help out. For a long time my Husky Niska was my rock but sadly the MTX seems much worse now then when I was younger, ((Niska is alive and well for a senior dog, she is 14 now and usually still acts like a pup)) Lost my hair this time, ((it is growing back mostly a few little fuzzy spots, good thing I like toques)) and not any last time. I am on a lower dose then before too. I hope to get some more pet sitting jobs, but college starts up again in September and I kind of need a way that I can use while away from any pets. Sadly an hour or so away from the kitten and I start feeling worse again. I will have classes 4 days a week and they are from 11am to 9pm. So kind of hard to just snuggle and play with pups or kitties. I wish I could keep get but she already has a wonderful family who are just on vacation right now, also as a student with little to no income and classes to attend, the SPCA here will not let me be a foster.
