Good Afternoon Everyone,

As I lay in bed, with again no motivation, feeling exhausted whenever I take my Methotrexate the night before.. my legs are so achy, sharp pains on and off but feel like my muscles are pulled. Just always feel this way the day after, is this normal??? I have been on Methotrexate for 7 weeks... First 4, orally the last 3 Sub-Q. Don't really feel like I'm getting any relief... how long does it take to work??? Hate feeling this way, it's constant pain/discomfort..ugh!! Anyone feeling this way...

I started to feel the benefits after 9 weeks, and then it slowly started to improve week by week. However, it did take around a year to start feeling really normal.

Hi there. I think it takes everyone a few months to cope with new medication.

In Australia I see my Rheumatologist every three months for years and years.

For a while I saw him monthly but that's not usual here.

So I think that any change in medication probably takes three months.

The first six months after I started on methotrexate my teeth got 'hot' it was the weirdest thing. That meant it was working.

I noticed over time also that I was having more hair breakage and loss. I take extra care of my hair and skin because of this and that has been a constant. My hair which is long is 'frizzy' after I first wash it. It always used to be oily like my skin now they are both dry.

Nowadays I take my methotrexate 20mg in the morning and I feel very fatigued by lunchtime and have a big nap in the afternoon. Next day I start to feel better

Yes- I have been on Methotrexate since January first pills and by injection for last 3 months. I still feel totally rubbish the day after injecting (I inject at night).... flu like pain in lots of joints, feeling fever-y, and totally exhausted. I sometimes feel fairly bad On day 2 and even day three! I've noticed that overdoing things causes this but not a lot of choice during school holidays(single mum)! On the upside, some of my joints are much better, but not all- even though they've added the Sulphasalazine to the mix....

From what I can work out I think my experience is about middling- some cannot tolerate it at all and some get away with feeling much better on it.... apparently it's still early days in terms of getting the right treatment for me and I'm 8 months in!!! Very good luck- hope it works out better for you. Someone on here kindly suggested just taking that bad methotrexate day and rather indulging it.... movie, nice food, a friend around etc- I'm aiming for that, but for now I just sleep!

All good things,

Ness

Thank you Ness, I take it every Wednesday night, because I am a Nursing assistant and work long days Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.. Thursdays I leave for me to get over the reaction of this drug. Usually I am miserable until Saturday, then I start feeling better.. thinking of trying CBD oil, because I heard that is helpful with pain. Will see, Thank you for letting me know.. I guess I just need to be patient.

It's hard, I loss my sister last September and I know it was from all of her medications she took for her Scleroderma. (Methotrexate was one one of them, but I truly believe Embro did her in😢. Just scared..
