I've been thinking about eyebrow tattoo's subtle not beetle brows! but been advised that tattoos and RA are not compatible because of the auto immune side of RA. Does anyone know if this is correct or had it done?

As long as you go to a reputable place with good hygiene standards it's fine.   I think there are quite a few on here who love their tattoos of all descriptions......

You can always get them tinted as well...if you don't already?!  They are also some brilliant brow wax/powders available now also.  I never had to do anything to my eyebrows apart from plucking a few stray hairs but these days if I didn't get them done I'd look like Denis Healy and as we know they're very hard to do with RA hands!

Hi, I have Lupus and I had my brows tattooed again 12 days ago, the first time approx 6 weeks ago didn't take, it was done too thinly and I have very few hairs. So far so good apart from when the scabs start to fall off the time just before that are very itchy  but this is the same for everyone. You must not get them wet so if you wash your hair everyday (which I don't think you do) then you will need to invest in a tin of dry shampoo, I went the 12 days without washing my hair and it itched like mad, washed today at the hairdressers, lovely, I feel human again. Anyway in 2 1/2 weeks time I will due a top up for the hairs that didn't take, that is also the healing time.

Make sure you do your homework, the method I had is called "Diamond blading" microblading and it is a pen, it's brilliant, it cost me £250 but if you are in London and can afford it go to Karen Betts in Harley street she is the best but it will cost you. My SPM artist did,her training on one of her courses in London.

Best of luck and if you are worried speak to your consultant or GP but it's not given me any problems.

Take care,

Noonoox

I can't even cope with getting my ears pierced. They won't heal up.

Hi Pandora, I filled in 6 forms before they did the SPM lots of medical questions, medications etc, Lupus wasn't on the latest for neither was RA and I did approach the subject with which extra notes were taken. The first time I had it done the form did ask if I had Lupus but they were very unprofessional and they didn't do it properly, I did find it strange that the more professional business didn't have any autoimmune disease on it. The problem is SPM is not regulated by anybody so you do take your chances.

They now have a laser tattoo removal machine just for SPM solely for eyebrow disasters this was recently launched in London.

I have suggested check with consultant or GP but I shouldn't think they know much about it. Some said that Henna tattoo is worse but don't quote me on that.

Take care.

I think it is just the risk of infections.  If you aren't having problems with infections on your meds, and if you go to a very reputable place, then there shouldn't be any problems, but if you were worried, try discussing the risks with your doctor or nurse.

I use mavala and brush it on in the morning and evening. If I miss for a while they really fade. I have also tried a generic for of latisse, but there are unconfirmed side effects, so have a good read up on that if you wanted to try it first.

Hi, I've had my eyebrows tattooed twice now, once before I had any symptoms of RA and now a year on and after diagnosis had a top of session! Mine took fine on both occasions x

I have always wondered that myself. I have noticed others on a couple of Facebook site whom have gotten tattoos and haven't had a problem with it. I would also think would be individually based because we are all different. I would check with your doctor before attempting it. Then go from there. Best of luck and blessings.

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions this lady has asked me to fill in a questionnaire and is thorough but am going to talk to the GP anyway. She's very good and approachable so don't think will laugh. xx

Good luck Medway-lady, the company my artists trained with is Nouveau Contour which seems to be popular in the south. She is also a member of Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals and passed with Certified Permanent Cosmetic Professionals exam with Karen Betts. (SPCP) (CPCP)  maybe worth asking.

I had pencilled in my brows since I was 15 years which according to my specialist is when my Lupus started but although through the years I was never a well human being with pain I actually thought it was normal, it raised its ugly head when I went through the Menopause the first time and going through again after the op for a second time. The moral of this story is after pencilling in for 42 years and my hands now in more pain that I just couldn't do it anymore and just had to take chances. I will know in 2 1/2 weeks if it all healed ok, it seems to be.

Let us know if you go ahead would like to see how you got on.

Take care noonoox

Ps guy's if you wonder what I am doing on the NRAS forum, I have a client who has RA and after talking to her about this I wanted to see if there were any interesting post for her to look at as I have been trying to encourage her to join as the Lupus forum has helped me so much I don't think I would be still on the planet if it wasn't for some of them.

X

Hi there, I've had my eyebrows tattooed twice, mine were very thin from over plucking when I was younger. Found someone through word of mouth. She's excellent, very fine brush strokes, look 100 times better, thicker and longer. Costs around £275 then £150 for top up every 12 to 18 months. No problem with my RA, also had a large tattoo on my thigh last year, again no problems. Go for it, you don't realise what a difference eyebrows make to your face till you have them done! Also used to cost me a small fortune faffing around with Mac eyebrow pencils and could never get them right. Where about are you ? My tattoo lady is in Derbyshire x
