Hold on there is plenty you can do ! You can make sure you Are on good painkillers by seeing your gp and trying dome until you get one that helps. You can ask your Rheumy team to let you see podiatry, physio and ovcupational therapy. You can call your Rheumy team and they may increase or change your medications and add something like steroids. You should visit the dentist about the pain. Never accept the pain but you go have to oh ask for more help xxxxx

I have that, and it seems to be from inflammation in my jaw pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Don't assume thats what it is though - best bet is to get a dental check to rule out any dental problems first, and make sure you report that pain to your rheumatologist or rheumatology nurse and get their advice.

Hi Redrobyn, I have suffered this jaw/face pain for many years now. After evaluation at a Dental a Hospital, RA and OA was diagnosed in jaw and I was made a mouth guard to wear at night. This was unbearable for me, I could not use it, my jaw far too tight to use ad it made me gag so much. I was also advised to massage my jawline up to ear level several times a day with Ibrufen gel, and it find this does give some pain relief. However my jaw still hurts and I have totally modified my diet as I am unable to chew hard foods etc. I hope you get some proper advice on this horrible problem. Lynda x

this subject has been on here quite a bit recently. i have been suffering from jaw pain almost from the onset of RD four years ago. last week it came to a head when my jaw completely locked. my GP foned the hospital to see why i still hadn't had an appointment with the Dental Surgeon since it was requested in October last year. seems they are back logged to May last year!

my rheumy team as usual came to the rescue with a steroid injection on Monday there past. don't like the sound of the mouth guard, gagging just thinking of it!!

your rheumy team will always be your source of solace, they are for me thats for sure. just keep pushing where ever you can. if you think your not getting the help you need.......TELL THEM! i did and i've never regretted it. all the best.
