Cholesterol!

Gone up to 8.4 since been on tocilizumab. Not happy as be more drugs to control that to now!

That it's a side effect of the tocilizumab and need to see my own doctor to treat it, got an appointment near end of the month so will see what dr wants to do then

Hi Crazyjo. You could ask your GP to let you try lowering it by modifying your diet or trying Benecol yoghurt or Actimol spreads etc before resorting to a statin. Angela x

Actimel won't help to lower cholesterol as it doesn't contain plant sterols, it is purely a drink with healthy bacteria. I just wanted to point that out in case you want to try a more natural way. But Benecol does contain plant sterols as does some of the Flora Proactive products. I tried these but unfortunately they didn't help me and I ended up back on the statins. Clemmie

There is a lot of research going on at the moment about cholesterol, statins and fish oils.

Apparently fish oils are more effective than statins at reducing cholesterol, which seems surprising.

(I had really bad reactions to statins)

Also, cholesterol itself is not the exact problem, it is more important to look at the LDL values against the HDL values, etc.

It is such a complicated situation isn't it? I sometimes feel that each new tablet invites another, then another, ...

Thanks, it just seems to be one thing after another since having RA. See dr later in month so will go from there. Got a good doctor which definatly helps

Oh dear , more nuisance for you. Mine went up but seemed to settle own just with cutting out fried stuff and using flora. It does go up in my form of RA, so I get checked regularly now. My GP is good and doesn't want to jump in too quick, so hope your is as good xxxxxxhows the joints, any slight improvement yet?

Hi allanah, I am feeling awful still have spoke to hospital and got to ring back Monday to arrange another steroid infusion, just hope that will work as really struggling to cope like this at the moment

Hi just to let u know after my massive weight gain high cloestral level due to my infusions I have been on antristain well peed off it took my yearly check up at pharmacy to tell me statin should b taken at night not as stated on pkt one a day duh as cholestral builds up during the night when u lay down so now I'm hoping it reduces my weight as it so depressing
