Hi, I have small pea sized lumps on the back of my hands, they are painful and also move, sometimes I can't find them but can feel the tenderness. Is this RA ?

Hello,

They generally appear with age, have you discussed them with your GP.

There is a very copious amount of blood being supplied to the hand this can show as blood vessels and they can be seen, on the back of the hand.

Sometimes again with age the tendons become more noticeable, and what looks like nodules show with age also, generally I understand they look alarming, Again not to worry about Sometimes you may be effected via the tendons and small joints, will also have Arthritis and the wrist can also become effected. There may be an operation for that

Please discuss with your GP and hopefully He/She will put your mind at rest

Good Luck

Hi, I have soft lumps between my knuckles on my hands due to inflammation. That's why they thought I had RA, which did. Take care x

This sounds to me like they could be ganglions which are soft lumps rather than nodules which are firm lumps. I have a ganglion on the back of my left hand which is harmless. I could have it drained or cut out but as it's not causing me any pain I have chosen to leave it (at least for now). I would check with your rheumy or GP if you're worried. Fran x
