I have just managed my first methotrexate injection , I was inwardly worried about doing it, but was so relieved that it was absolutely fine. So worry over , side effects banished , phew x
Hurrah : I have just managed my first methotrexate... - NRAS
Hurrah
Well done, bet you are relieved, congratulations and have a bit of a rest now. ! When u have the equipment at home I found doing the injection in the late evening better as them u go to sleep and don't feel so tired!
So good on you, another step forward xx
Allanah that is my plan, ordinarily I would have tablets at night, the nurse made the appointment for 10:00, so as from next week it will be an evening thing, no chance of rest as 20 month old child would not appreciate that!!! Lol, and yes another step forward, baby steps , baby steps x
Hello BOB here
I have it all to come, awaiting my Folic Acid, not happy
BOB
Bob it's not a good thought I completely agree, but needs must and all that!! I feel better than I did at 9:00 this morning I can assure you x it really is ok completely unnatural but ok ,
Hugs, Karin x
Thank you scouser, can I just ask I have just looked at my tummy where I injected this morning and my skin is yellow, a circle about 20p size, I know the methotrexate is bright yellow and I am guessing it's staining under the skin, is that what usually happens, ?
Hi Ibtabby well done I have been injecting MXT now for quite a while and it is far better than tablets and you do get used to doing it, but I think if I was you I would ring your rheumy nurse about the yellow circle, that has never happened to me. Hopefully it is nothing maybe other members have had this.

Hi Wendy. In what way are the injections better for you? I may be going back on to this soon after a failed attempt at sulfasalazine. I was ok with methotrexate but my hair fell out very badly. Thanks Angela.
Hi Angela, I find the injections better as I used to take the tablets and had a lot of tummy trouble, but that has gone now and all the other side affects, my hair does fall out a bit but not enough to worry about. I also take Sulfa and Hydroxy.

I didn't think of doing that nellysgran , I will leave a message for my Rheumy nurse x
A quick update, I rang and spoke with the nurse who taught me at home this morning, she said that she is sure that by tomorrow morning the methotrexate will have been absorbed and so the staining will disappear, so thanks one and all , I appreciate your support and wisdom , Karin x
Hi all, just been reading all your informative comments, I have been on mtx orally for 3 years now and still struggle with nausea and tum troubles, I am on 12.5mg. My nurse has said to try the injection form but I'm fearful of my hair (it is slightly falling out even now) as they say the dose is stronger as goes straight to the bloodstream. I take folic acid most days for side effects. Also do the injections really stop the nausea as the nurse wants me to reduce the folic acid as there is some research to suggest it can lessen the effect of mtx.
I guess what I'm asking, is it worth all the hassle of injecting, I need to hear more positive comments re injecting as can't imagine sticking a needle into myself although I'm not need phobic at all just don't like the idea. I do embrel with an epipen and that's no problem as I don't see the needle..any comments re all this much appreciated, due to inject with a nurse first in next 2 weeks...yikes! Thank you! TT
I'm pleased you managed injection. It gets quite easy as you go on and I do believe more of the MTX is absorbed. Good news to hear. Maryx
Oh thanks Mary, had my first Pilates session today, I've got to help myself feel more positive than I do , so two things achieved in 2 days , don't stop me now !!
Pilates was fab , I could do more than I thought and I can tell that it will be good, it will help my posture and my core strength . So every little helps! , hopefully x
I'd say the injections of MTX are definetly worth it. Most report no side effects, nausea gone, less pain almost immediately...
You may receive your MTX in a pre-filled syringe. I don't know how you receive yours there. Like anything you do repeatedly, it becomes a habit, and is done very quickly. Good luck, especially with the results! xxx
Hi lorann, yes pre filled syringe that's how it comes,
A very fine needle, and no effort to insert at all, so the worry has now gone for me,
So to any one considering injecting or waiting to do it for the first time, relax it's not as bad as you think, truly xx love, hugs and a sprinkling of positivity to all , Karin x
