Incy, home made baked beans?
With great pleasure NB all my recipes are a bit vague...
Ingredients for un-tinned un-baked beans. About 4 portions as a side.
1 onion - medium-ish
a tablespoon or so of oil. I use groundnut but whatever floats your boat
seasoning/spice - my favourites are paprika, or chipotle chilli salt or cumin (seeds, slightly crushed), or turmeric, or ANYthing a little bit spicy. Enough of these to flavour the beans.
1 tbsp garlic puree, or a couple of crushed cloves
2 tbsp tomato puree
a small cup of water - think bone china cup and saucer type cup, you know? Well, a little bit less than that.
1 tin butter beans and 1 tin cannellini beans. (any other beans will do - I prefer these cos they're both a lovely soft texture.)
First fry your onions gently in the oil till soft. Add spice/s and stir for a minute or so, then add garlic and tomato puree, mix it up quick or it'll go weird. Swiftly add water to make a sauce.
Cook that for about 5 mins till good and hot. Chuck your beans in. Simmer on a cool heat for as long as you like - I like to let mine reduce for a while, but you could thicken sauce with cornflour too. Tadaaa!

I was worried about getting the thumbs up from my 15 year old son (who as with most teenagers is virtually addicted to heinz baked beans. But. Shock. HE LIKED THEM!!!!
