I've cruised nicely into week two so far. However I am very aware of the pitfalls that can pop up.

Having tried and failed on pervious attempts I have learnt that these temptations can ruin everything and bring you back to day 1 again.

For example, last night I was tempted to have one of the beers left over from Christmas, but felt a little reluctant as I found drinking beer can be one of those pitfalls that can lead to "oh I'll just have the one cig with a beer"

Well I had 3 beers and wasnt tempted in the slightest.

I'm not for one minute suggesting I've overcome that beer hurdle but I'm very aware of it, this time round.

I really feel different this time about quitting for good. I'm now in the mindset of choosing not to smoke as opposed to "giving up"

To me "giving up" suggests that your denying yourself something. Where as telling yourself I'm choosing "NOT TO" smoke is a lifestyle choice and reinforces ones will power. :)

What a lovely mindset you have, with the lovely way your viewing your quit, this is going to be the one that counts, please post if you have any issues, as plenty of lovely people on here to help.

Doing fantastic, big congratulations from me .

Well done Ian, sounds like you have the right head on to get this job done. I agree with changing the way you refer to your quit, I say to myself that I do not want to put one in my mouth at the moment and that usually works. Its also good to tell yourself encouraging things just as you are slipping off to sleep as this is when your sub con is easily tapped into. In the 1st couple of weeks I would tell myself I was healing and that there was nothing to worry about. I am thrilled for you

Ian, I totally agree. If I 'give up' something, it seems more attractive because it is forbidden, whereas if I tell myself that I choose not to do it, then somehow it is easier.

Well done on overcoming the 'beer hurdle'.

Thank you, Don't get me wrong this hasn't been easy, and I'm in no illusion as to what lies ahead. I'm sure it will be times when it gets tougher.

But I'm so glad I've found this group, you guys are awesome.

I think your outlook is fantastic, getting used to the harder times is tricky! And beer is always an expected pitfall! Your doing great!

congrats, that is a great way to look at it. Thanks for sharing that.

You are not depriving yourself, you are choosing to free yourself :-D

Hope you have a nice day
