New Advert and Campaign
It's disgusting when he opens that pack of bacca
Oh my gosh, it's sure hard hitting, but would it of stopped you smoking as a youngster?
Shocking that's a fact.
Thank you. I needed to see that today. I smoked rollies and, although I knew all smoking was bad, I half hoped that smoking rollies wasn't quite as bad. The power of the smoking mind!
Omg just had another look, horrid, but oh so true, if ever there was a reason to quit
Me too.
I've said it before and will say it again- it's time there was an ad campaign that concentrated on all the positives of quitting (more money, better skin/hair/teeth so more opportunities with the opposite sex, etc ;)). I honestly think it might be just as effective especially as everyone has become conditioned to the shock-tactics adds.
Well said Skidders.
These shock campaigns are doomed to failure on so many levels:
- every smoker knows that their pouch of tobacco contains tobacco, not marmite. Similarly, their home-rolled cigarettes contain tobacco, not old sump oil. Whatever 'powerful metaphors' these images strive to convey are lost, as the images themselves are completely ridiculous.
- I doubt there's a single smoker in the land who isn't already aware of the damage they are doing to themselves. Why tell them what they already know? Most smokers are desperate to break free; what they can't see is how to go about it - so how about trying a little positive education, rather than a good old-fashioned slapping?
- No mention whatsoever of the positives - let's see some ex-smokers tell their stories.
Stop telling people what they already know and try telling them something they DON'T know!
I agree it would be a great idea to have something out there which focusses on the positives of giving up. I wrote something similar on a different thread. I never thought I'd be able to quit. But this forum gave me the confidence I needed that it was possible.
