Hooray

Every battle won makes the war shorter.

You can do this, just think of all the reasons you want to quit.

Now think about smoking, what did it do for you. Made you poorer, made you stink, made you sick.

In the words of one my favourite films 'choose life'

:)

So good to see you didnt go down that road and spend all that money on a pack

i cant believe how much the price of a pack has risen  i am soo glad i have that extra money to spend on myself and my grandsons :)

i was talking to my mum the other day about smoking and the cost as she has been given up for over 26 years

she thougth i was winding her up when i told her how much a pack cost as she says she used to pay about £13 for a 100 back in the day when she did smoke

hope you have a great smokefree day and treat yourself to something nice with the money you have saved :D

I'm eating a bit more but so what, I feel ok and the cravings are not that bad now. Feeling fitter already.

You know how you were saying people should post more about the health benefits, when you quit. I've got one for you.

I have just spent the last 4 hours clearing out flower beds. I knelt without thinking about it, getting up to put stuff in the bin etc.

So what???? I hear you say.

Well I've not been able to kneel for any length of time for years. I used to have to sit on my bum and weed sideways. Not cos it hurts but because I'd get pins and needles pretty quickly. I put it down to age but I bet it's poor circulation and now it's improved. I call that miraculous.:D

Yes Sue it probably is because of circulation that's really interesting. I think smoking totally shatters circulation.

Seriously one of the reasons I had to stop was because I use so get strange pains in my chest. I get an ECG as part of my medical for the job I do and my heart is fine, but they weren't in one place. It's an awful feeling thinking your going to have an attack but worrying about it can cause stress and anxiety which could be what caused the pain. Like a vicious circle!

Guess what? Whatever was causing it since I stopped smoking I don't have any strange pains anymore not even a little bit. Just that alone is enough to stop me from smoking.

DON'T LET THE DEATH STICKS WIN

More health stories please :D

Thanks again

Paul

I was diagnosed with peripheral arterial disease in both legs, I couldn't walk for more than a few yards, and was offered to have a bypass operation, I stopped smoking immediately and within 3 months I wasn't just walking, but was able to go dancing. I have had no problems since.

oh my Jeannie and I thougt mine was a miracle. That really is amazing.

@Intercity Yeah me too with the little pains, even tried to convince myself it was because my bra was too tight. :D:D:D

Now all gone. I knew it was bad for me but I thought the consequences were some time in the future. Didn't realise my quality of life was being effected now.

Jean that is an amazing story and it's stories like that which give me lots of motivation.

And thanks to buttercup too

Maybe we should put all these health scary stories in a new post thingy:eek:

Sounds silly but one of the worst things for me was my mouth. It just felt so awful and disgusting and my gums were yukky. I think it might take sometime for my mouth to recover but it will eventually

cheers:D

Thanks Karri,

Some of the stories on it are so sad, it really is an evil thing.

Funnily enough, I was just thinking today of a health benefit I have noticed. I'm getting rid of a cold at the moment- the second cold I have had since I quit. In the old days, when I caught a cold it would settle on my chest and linger for weeks- hacking cough, wheezing, etc. Both the colds I have caught since quitting have been over within a week and neither have settled on my chest. Result! :D

This is a really good thread (just ignore the bickering )

Thanks Karri I just read the whole thing very good and sad:(

I think that when you start smoking especially when you're young the smoking doesn't seem that bad for you. But very gradually it is eating away at your health. So slowly sometimes you don't even notice it, before you know it you have been smoking 30 years!!

Again when you stop smoking your health will improve but may take years so it's harder to realise the health benefits. If it was instant nobody would smoke.

Sorry no good at explaining things.
