Hi all,

I am new to this wonderful place, which has helped me over the last few days.

I stopped 19th Jan using patches. I say stopped, I've actually had a few blips, the last blip being 3 days ago. The blips being 1 cigarette or just a couple of puffs. I was so disappointed with myself and felt like quitting the quit.

And then I found this place and it got my motivation going again.

But today has been tough again.

I find the patches are working - stage 1, which I wear during the day and take them off at night. I'm dreading dropping down in strength and feel I'll be on them forever.

Anybody else had slight relapses? Or have the same thoughts about patches?

Thanks for reading

Patch

It's so hard isn't it, but I,m 3 weeks in and same as you take them off at night, but after asking around from the lovely people on here have decided to stay on full pops for 7 weeks, and then drop Dow, as I,m here for the long haul, I figure no harm done, and hopefully I will be ready for the drop.

But I would say don't worry to much at the moment. Your doing fantastic, and many people on here have used the patch method to quit.

Well done, read and post as you want some truly great people on here, and always some one to help in a crisis

Hiya and welcome :)

I'm on patches, and TBH I'm not in a hurry to step down - there's no 2set in stone" date you have to, so you can keep them going for a bit longer - someone on here did 4 months if i remember right :)

The biggest thing is not to worry - you're early into your quit so that's natural but you don't need to!!

If you're having the odd blip, maybe it would be worht you investing in some NRT gum, or mini lozenges - just to use when you feel you're about to smoke, or a nicotine free e-cig as a last resort?

When you get more time under your belt you *will* feel a lot more confident - at the mo it's all very new and very scary but it *does* get better :)

Hiya I am actually going through this as we speak recently dropped to 14mg after being on 21mg for 8 weeks instead of 6, don't worry about dropping the patches if ur not ready ;)

SPJ, I would second Gemma's suggestion about having some additional NRT to hand for those moments when you're desperate. I used the lozenges and found they really helped (the spray is supposed to be good for an instant hit too).

Welcome to the forum by the way and many congratulations on persevering with your quit despite the occasional blip. It's lovely to have you aboard. :)

Thanks for all your replies.

I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone in this.

This morning I got up put my patch on straight away and then later took half a mini lozenge. I feel great and the monster is at bay.

I think as the weeks go on you can get too confident and I have delayed putting my patch on in the morning which has resulted in my cravings creeping up.

At this stage I don't want a cigarette but you have the feeling you want something?!!

So when I've had the blips I realise how disgusting it is, tastes awful and the smell, yuk. I found I didn't get a rush probably because I'm on the patches.

I'm going to carry on with the patches, as long as it takes.

Thanks again for all the support, I love this place.

Glad you're off to a good start today!!

You're right about delaying the patches - whenever I've put mine on late it's meant huge cravings so it has to be a first thing jobbie!!

Oooh and the feeling like you're missing something? That's normal and heck I know that feeling!! It's good that when you blipped you didn't enjoy them - fags are pretty rank but we didn't notice at the time

Gemma so right

Gemma is so right, those white sticks at approx (37p) each are rank, and that's just another armour in my arsenal to end what have started, we need to keep the quit going.

They are so smelly, I can now spot a smoker at 50 yards (still old school) I don't feel sorry for them, I don't feel the need to say hey why don't you quit.

I just hold on to my quit and hopefully will get to the penthouse one day:)

Patches question

I have a question about patches and wondered if anyone had any thoughts.

I'm on the the 21mg patch which I only have on during the day. I'm very apprehensive about going down in strength.

So I was wondering if I cut them in half and only used a half, would I only get half the strength.

My Hubby reckons I would still get the same strength.

Any thoughts?

I've bought loads of full strength and I don't want the bother of getting a lower dose and them not working for me.

Spj how long have you been quit? With regards to cutting he patches in half I know it's not recommended because it tampers with the dosage, by being cut it can release the nicotine into the system too quickly, they are designed to give a steady slow dosage, I personally wouldnt cut them but I know people who have so they may be able to give better advice, good luck xx

Maybe not a good idea then.

Stopped 8weeks ago.

I'll stay on the patches and then try dropping down when I feel ready.

Many thanks for your replies
