Hi

I'm Andy and have been a smoker for about 35 Years. Last year at this time I was pushing 40 a day. This was mainly due to the fact that my Mother had a serious stroke (although a non smoker/drinker)

Anyway to cut a long story short Mum passed away in Feb 2013 and I have been gradually cutting them back since using a mobile app and was down to 15 a day after Xmas. 3 weeks ago I stopped without really meaning to and am now on day 25.

UIsed in this site a lot in the last week as I am surrounded by non smokers who think that once the first few days are over that all is well with the world. Reading that you guys are going through the same has kept me sane.

So Many Thanks and good luck to all :)

Hi Andy :)

Welcome to the forum you are in safe hands :) firstly I am very sorry for the loss of your mum, it must be so difficult for you, to cut back on smoking during such a stressful time is admirable it really is, especially as a lot of us used smoking as a crutch during stressful times, but 25 days fully quit is brilliant! I'm not that far ahead of you so we are in this boat together :)

I think with non smokers it's the lack of knowledge, they mean well but as we all know after a few days all is definitely NOT well with the world....this is a long drawn out and sometimes horrendously difficult process, but with support which you will get in abundance on here we can all do this are you using NRT or just your app? How are you finding it? Keep up the good work, you're doing great x

Hi

I was using the Pre Quit patches. I found these really helped at first as I still could smoke and was just aiming to drive it down.

I stopped using them about 2 weeks ago as the side effects were getting a bit unpleasant.

The app doesn't really help now I am not smoking as its more of a cutting down aid (Fantastic for that though - big help to me)

Must admit I kept slipping in the first week. Light one up - take a drag - say NO i'm not going to - put it out. Last time I did it the taste was awful, my head started spinning and it was just like those first ones 35 years ago. I haven't put one in my mouth since and hopefully have more sense now than to keep poisoning my body until it accepts and needs it

So all I'm using now is will power and this site

Oh and eating anything within reach:o
