Tips on not eating please?
well..I'm moving towards month 5 of my quit, and you can call me shallow as much as you like but my biggest fesr with the quit was putting on weight!
So I have been very careful...my recent weigh in I have actually LOST 6 pounds!!!
My nibbles are frozen grapes, fruits of all variations, reduced my flour and fat intake to compensate the lowering of metabolism which some believe happens when you stop smoking (don't know if this is true???)
So yes, nibble away-but just eat the right stuff xxx
Drink lots of water & eat lots of fruit
Drink lots of water & eat lots of fruit
It really helps - the water makes you feel full - there's nothing like water for doing that. The fruit, I've found, no matter how much of it I eat, I don't put weight on by eating it.
Also, treat "hungry" craves like smoking craves - they come and go. Tell your self you're not hungry, ( mostly we're not ) then distract yourself and usually the crave goes away for now.
Also, get as much exercise as you can. Walk rather than drive, use stairs rather than lifts or escalators, if you work at a desk, figet/clench your muscles and get up/move around frequently, make extra trips upstairs, do some gardening...anything to burn off some calories.
Drinking lots of cold water certainly helps me (I'm dieting as well as quitting and have managed to lose just over half a stone so far). Cut down on fats and sugars, eat loads of fruit and veg, eat slowly and limit your portion size, eat regularly (and have a good breakfast) and if you need to snack on something make it something relatively healthy (sunflower seeds are good IMO- admittedly, they contain calories but you don't need more than a small handful to take the edge off your hunger). Sugar-free gum helps with both fag and food cravings in my experience.
Anyway, good luck with it
A lot of the time when you feel hungry, you're actually thirsty - and when you stop smoking it's easy to not drink enough too, partly because smoking dries you out and partly because of the "coffee and fag" trigger - so drink plenty of water!!
That helps with the craves too, so it's a double bonus!!
