Hello...Today's The Day!

Hi folks,

Pleased to meet you all!! I'm Steve, been lurking around the forum since before Xmas, so I feel like I know many of you already!

I'm a 30+ a day smoker (mostly roll-ups) for 20+ years, and have decided to bite the bullet and quit...starting tonight

After some deliberation, I'm going to see how I get on with patches (CT feels a bit too daunting, sorry!)

As a backup, I already have one of those mist spray thingies.

The plan for the next 24 hours:

1. Join the Jan 2014 Freedom Fighters group - Done!

2. Buy patches on way home from work - Done!

3. Have my final cig

4. Apply patch

5. Listen to Max Kirsten hypnosis app on my iPhone

6. Post on the 'Day 1' board tomorrow

7. Evaluate progress

Wish me luck :)

Steve

  • Hi Steve,

Congrats on taking the first steps and best of luck with the quit, i'm now 6 days in to mine and as hard as the first 3 days are I do feel a daily improvement and a slight reduction in the craves.

This site is a welcome relief and helps with both support and motivation.

  • Hello Steve, welcome and congratulations on deciding to quit. Your plan sounds fab, baby steps are definitely the way to go - focus on small amounts of time, arm yourself with loads of distractions and kick that evil, stinky nicotine into touch! Look forward to hearing from you tomorrow ;)

  • The best made plans of mice and men - actually works. Looking forward to your next post. :D

Hi all, and -- really -- a million thanks for your messages of encouragement :)

What a wonderful place this is!

I'm in final 'getting my ducks in a row' phase right now...almost ready to pull the trigger.

T-Minus 2 hours and counting, probably sooner.

You're all my heroes, each and every one of you.

    Cheers, Steve

  • Hi Steve

Well done for taking the plunge and don't ever feel u have to apologise for not going CT, I have tried most methods and can say this quit I am using patches and it seems to be better, CT is really difficult for some including me, it's doesn't matter if you use NRT or not as long as u quit the dreaded weed so all the very best for tomorrow you'll be grand :)

  • Welcome Steve, nice post, good plan but you don't need luck, only belief that you can do this....and you most definitely can :)

  • Hi Steve,

I was a rollie smoker too. Don't be ashamed of using NRT- there is NO way I could have quit if I had gone CT.

Well done on your decision. I shall look forward to hearing how it goes for you.

    All the best :)
