7 months, I crashed with my car today..

I am at 7 and half months (20 years old, 4 years stable smoker) without smoking. However, I crashed with my car yesterday, while I was driving my mother home (I am from Bulgaria). I hit the front side of the car really bad and it was due to my negligence (I didn't notice the red light and crashed into the back side of the car in front of me). My mother had to pay him a certain sum for the damage and now my car is at a service (for which she will have to pay again a considerable price). I felt pretty bad and embarassed (this is my first car accident). I nearly caved the moment after the crash and I was about to ask my mother for a cigarette. However, I didn't, for which I am really glad. My father though got really angry and hang up the phone (he lives separated from me and my mother). Since yesterday I can't stop thinking about that crash and the fact that my father hasn't even called me yet... I have some cravings, but I hope I will deal with them. I just wanted to share this with you guys. I find this forum full of nice and supportive people and it makes me calmer to post here. Thank you for the spared time.

"crashed my car"

Hello Theavengers

Oops, however console yourself with the fact that you didn't smoke though tempted.

The car is basically a large lump of metal and easily repaired. If you caved and continued smoking would your well being, namely your health be so easily repaired I think not.

Regarding your dad and the inconvenience your mistake has caused, Dad's are like that. Myself I acquired the nickname from my daughters of GOB:- GRUMPY OLD ......D, it's dad's around the world perogative to be like that but they know that I love them and have their best interest at heart.

Next time you see him give him a kiss and tell him you love him a fact he already knows, it works wonders.

So just get on with your quit and make your Dad proud of you

Hey, thanks for the advice, but I am a boy, and the relationships between father and son are harder to fix...

Because the car doesn't have insurance and it's old.

You should be ashamed. I really wish the police had been around

Are you sure he lives in the UK Karri?

do you not live in the uk? As here we can only drive with insurance to cover other cars if not our own.

Anyway, onto a better note, well done for not smoking, be proud of yourself for that.

Re your Dad, it is different with sons/daughters sadly but I am sure that your dad does care. maybe you could ring him when you are feeling up to it and have a calm chat

whatever, try not to throw away your quit, 71/2 months is some achievement xx

No need to be offensive, I am from Bulgaria and here things are different than there.

I think that most people assume that the majority of people live in a country where insurance for other people's cars is compulsory rather than being able to drive with out cover for third party vehicles.

The main thing is, (i assume) no one was hurt and you haven't smoked.xx

Even if he doesn't live in the UK and is not required by law to have insurance, I still don't see why his Mother should have to pay for the consequences of his negligence.

Because we have absolutely no idea as to how the finances in his family are sorted out maybe?

She paid because:

1. I had no money in me when the accident happened.

2. I don't work yet.

3. She paid the other driver for settlement, because calling the police would end in a much larger payment from my mother + a police fine for me and points taken from my driver license. She even gave him more money then he would need to fix his car's damage.

Don't worry mate. Apparently the forum is full of people that have never put a single foot wrong in life, and have never required any financial help from their parents.

Well done for not smoking mate. Keep it up!

I am pretty sure you need third party cover as a minimum even in Bulgaria. It's more offensive knowing people drive (regardless of the country) and aren't concentrating enough to see a red light. Luckily it wasn't at a crossing where you could have knocked someone over!!

Wow! Incredible. Karri has never ever accidentally done something wrong in her entire life!

That's got to be worth a congratulations.

I have done plenty of wrong things in my life. I do drive with insurance though and don't run red lights.

I'm far from perfect but I am law abiding ;)

So is he law abiding. He doesn't need insurance and he made a mistake on the roads. That's why it's called an "accident" and not called a "deliberate".

Karri makes a perfectly valid and accurate point.;)

Driving without basic third party insurance is a minimum, not a luxury.

Driving with no insurance=stupid.

In Bulgaria?

I may have insurance on the car, I don't know (the car is my father's but he has given it to me so I can drive it and take care of). The payment was made so that the other person wouldn't call the police, which would result in a BIGGER payment and POINTS TAKEN FROM MY DRIVING LICENSE. It may be serious in the other countries, but unfortunately I live in Bulgaria and here payments for settlements among people is not something uncommon. All I wanted was support on this board. I know completely what wrongs I have done and what laws I have broken. It gave me a lesson not to be negligent behind the wheel in the future. Thank you.

Quite right. This is a smoking forum and well done for not smoking during that period of stress. The story may help others through their own stress times and I'm sure that was the original intention of posting it.

Agreed. Well done for not sparking up! :)
