So Frustrating....

Sitting here in my pjs sipping my coffee on a Saturday morning..... this is one of the times I miss smoking. I was thinking about it this morning and the stupid thing is I really am not sure what I miss about it. I can think of a few things I don't miss about my morning cigarette - but can't put my finger on any specific thing I miss. Almost 4 months have gone by since my last cigarette and I find it very disheartening how often I miss smoking and can't even tell you what I miss about it. I won't go buy a pack of cigarettes - but I would not trust myself if there was a pack sitting available in my reach and nobody was around. :( I know I will get past this feeling....it is sometimes just a little overwhelming. Stupid cigarettes. ugh

Is it perhaps the habit of a fag with your coffee that you are missing, Melzee, rather than the nicotine itself?

If you were to have a fag now it would be absolutely vile. It would make you feel so sick and your head would feel like it was going to explode.....and you would feel so bad at having succumbed that you would feel like ripping your own head off. Please don't miss all that. (sad face smiley).

There, how about that for encouragement! I once quit for 6 months and all of the above is exactly how I felt, so........... chin up, you know that all of us over here are rooting for you over there! :D

I think its so easy to forget the reason why we stop when we are further down the line, its a bit like a rotten ex boyfriend, when you first break up you know exactly why you've broke up but a few months down the line sometimes you romanticise the memories you have and actually forget what an absolute **** he was, xxx

stay strong, you've done a fantastic thing and if you did start smoking again you would soon want to stop again and would have to do all this journey again, that would be a nightmare

Oh I can so relate to that too Melzee and can hear myself telling my friends same thing....in fact my partner used to say to me "be proud" and my reply was always 'no not yet because I'd smoke if a packet was around right now"

You know what...each to their own way but we all "crave" to be a non/ex smoker. My little way is ....I have a little app on my iPad that counts the days hours and shows the improvements in health and how strong our cravings are ..... my cravings is just 3 notches off from green. I can't wait for that to reach the bottom !

Also Melzee, you quit a little after me and if you smoked a packet a day you have almost saved £2,000 !!! Don't know what that is currently in dollars but hey "WOW"

Yes I really miss the coffee and cigs too, but now I've created a different routine and that is coffee and this forum :)

This is a natural thing to happen

Just remember smoking was a part of your life and will take a while for you to do things without thinking of smoking as part of that routine obviously your not thinking about it all the time like in the early days but

and it will get easier the further down the road you get

i know i used to wander around the house whenever i was going out thinking ive forgotton something and then it would dawn on me that i dont need to pick up baccy tin and lighter anymore

and yes your going to have nice memories of smoking but as Jules said its like months after a break up you start only remembering the good bits to it and thats the same you are breaking a relationship with smoking

and what you think a ciggie would taste like is nothing like the reality

you could easily put that to the test by either standing next to someone who is smoking and having a whiff or pick up a ashtray or used ciggy dogend and smell that  it would smell disgusting

the only time i ever get a yearn for a ciggie is if i see someone smoking on the tv and i sometimes gat a thought pop up of oh i fancy one now   but i know thats just my nicotine demon sending me those thoughts and i choose to ignore them

thats the key choosing to ignore them and choosing to move on with your life and the freedom that comes from not smoking

onwards and upwards is the only way to go

btw

WELL DONE ON NEARLY GETTING TO 4 MONTHS

:D

Its not that far of before you hit the half way room

yahh

:D:D:D

Hello again Carol....:)

You are so right !

So that's what it is that's bugging me.....it's that feeling of not carrying around the blasted things ! You know what I just couldn't fathom that odd feeling !

To a greater or lesser extent, most of us, if we're being honest, can relate to these feelings to a greater or lesser extent. For me these are occasional fleeting thoughts, not at all intense, but there nevertheless. I read a thought recently (I can't remember where, may have even been in someone's sig.) that I thought was very powerful:

"Far better to wish you could smoke occasionally, than to wish you didn't smoke constantly".

When those fleeting thoughts enter your mind, think of this and you will soon knock them away;).

Thank you everyone for your posts and words of wisdom. I read all of them several times that day.... and a couple of times since. Lots of ups and downs during this whole quit and they can be a bit daunting. But as time goes on there are many more ups then downs! Thank you guys and gals again from pulling me out of a down that day. :o

Ive stopped in the past for 3 years and more recently for over a year. The thing that keeps me going is that I recall during those times that I didn't miss smoking at all - I was stupid for going back to them. But I do know that after a few months - around 4 months I think, I really never thought about them any more.
