I just had a cigarette not a full one has i threw half of it away, but my question is, is it a good idea to ease out of it by cutting down say 1 cigarette a day and then quit completely? or is this going to make my cravings much stronger? im finding that i'm not enjoying the fags like i used to since this time im putting all of my effort into quitting.
I've even started to walk my dog twice a day to take my mind off of it but i still crave them ahhhhh! am i back to square one?

Aww that's a shame Lulu!!
Don't beat yourself up about it though, we've all done it!!
Don't bother "cutting down" all it will do is make you feel rubbish for longer - it drags it out - and you'll "enjoy" the fags you do smoke all the more.
Best thing IMO is this:
Bin your fags - pour water on them too or you might fish them out
Buy patches, or get them on prescription and also get some NRT gum, pop a patch on, and chew the gum when you get a bad crave.
Get a tangle toy to keep your hands busy, plenty of chewing gum, lollies and stuff to keep your mouth busy too
Post on here lots, we'll drag you through!!
I know you want this and we're here to make sure you get there.
Believe me, if I can be at 23 weeks smoke free then anyone can xx
Dunno about others but my opinion is that cutting down is NOT the way
You HAVE to stop completely.Have a plan, arm yourself with weapons whether that is cold turkey determination,NRT Champix and stop totally!!! Having a crafty one now and then will not work!
I tried cutting down a couple of years ago Max - that's what made me go from around 10 a day to 20 'cos I got sick of it and it made me crave more. :/
Ok i'll try not to have another today. They are not actually my ciggies they're my sisters lol but i have told her and my mum if i ask for one don't give them out and also to hide them so i don't help myself it's funny i only crave them at home but once i'm at my partners i don't even think about them  thanks for your quick replies again.

Are you at work now?
If you are nip out at lunch and get some NRT and drop the fags somewhere!!
tbh not really i was just using the e-cig but i'm not really using it that often. I just might try the gum for now, if that doesn't help i may try the patches along with the gum. Is this a good idea? do patches work?

You need to have a bit of a plan Lulu and stick to one or two types of NRT
What I'd hate would be for you to try different things, and have false starts 'cos that's upsetting for you!! Been there, done that.
The patches are fab, they take the edge off the withdrawal, I'd be smoking by now without them - and because they're a step down programme, they wean you off it slowly
Using that with gum did the trick for me, Patch on first thing, then chew gum when I craved.
TBH, I'd start off with that and see how you get on
Am not a fan of e-cigs 'cos I got hooked on mine - and they're sold as an alternative to smoking, not a quit aid!!
Depending on how many you smoked, you'll need to start on step 1 or 2 - 1 is for 10+ a day.

YAY Patches are the best NRT I've used (and I've tried most over the years, lol) and thye break the whole hand to mouth thing which is a big part of smoking.
One of my friends quit with a quit kit last year and she swore by it - definitely a good idea!!

Ok I won't be able to get the patches until Thursday since I'm busy and also have to get more gum as I cannot find them so my quit day will now be thurs/fri. I'm gonna do this properly with the help of NRT, by then my quit kit would have arrived so ill also have that to help in the meantime gonna keep fags to a minimum. So I'll check back then wearing my patch! and I will do it!

That's great!!
You could always use the e-cig until you get your NRT of course - it's not stinky ciggies after all
Thanks Gemma and sjt I will use my e-cig until then, and your right people here a fab and a very big help! Glad I found this forum great to know there is always people to talk to from the comfort of your own home. I will see you all Thursday!

That's fab hun
You're basically not smoking from now if you don't have an actual ciggie - how good is that?
Ooh and this place? I'd be smoking again without it 'cos it really made the difference!!
