YAY smells :D

I've just got back from picking up my dad's new car (and I got to drive woohoo!!) and it smells lovely :D

Last new one we got a couple of years ago I was disappointed 'cos I thought it didn't have that new car smell to it which I love - but it wasn't that it was the flipping fags  Thought it was the car 'cos the one before that smelled fab - but when we got that I was in the middle of my last quit.

How much have I been missing out on?

Ooh and someone came in and had to stand in the drizzle puffing on a fag, and did he look like he was enjoying it? Nope - grumpy, ashamed and a bit disgusted actually.

Anyway, what do you love being able to smell now? :D

  • It may sound like a bit of a wierd answer, but for me it's the smells of childhood. So many things which , thanks to the fags, I haven't smelt properly since being a (pre) teenager - especially now Spring is (finally) in the air, it's like I'm on a permanent nostalgia trip:o

  • I CANNOT WAIT TO SMELL SPRING GRASS!! :D

Also love the smell of freshly washed clothes, food, perfume, and pretty much everything else. Smell and taste are definately the two massive perks for me!

  • Oh yes, cut grass. :)Also the smell of my hair, still shampooey:D. The down side with having a better sense of smell is that you can smell everyone else's not so pleasant smells....

    Oh that makes sense!!

It really is incredible what we all missed out on :/

Someone was cutting the grass the other day and it smells fab!!

Haven't smelled that in a few years - it's funny, I'd only been smoking this time for 3 years but can't remember *losing* my sense of smell at all.

    Eek, there is that lol.

But it' nice to smell my fruity shampoo - and it lasts now it doesn't get all smokey :/

  • You will also notice that things you liked the smell of when you smoked you dont like anymore aswell as taste

I went of most of my fav perfumes when I quit and couldn't wear them anymore

    Ooh yes!!

I bought a load of body sprays a week or so before I quit - several of each too 'cos I used a lot to "cover up" the smell of smoke on me. Anyway, I loved one of them so much - wore it every day until I stopped smoking, now it smells like fruity vodka :/

  • gemma i dont know how old you are, i doubt you are as old as i or many others are but you did mention "the smell inside of a car" well ok new cars do smell nice inside granted but, you cannot ever get over the smell of a 1970's (maybe 1960's also, im too young for that ^^ ) car, when i come across one memories flood back, even with smoking its impossible not to have that strong smell you get , cars nowadays smell nice but they are nothing compared to the 70s :)

Ooh, I've never smelled that - am only 29 so I've missed out!! :)

  • Completely agree with Squinter there

60s/70s new cars-not even new cars-were rich in leather and wood inside and less so in plastic and smelt glorious :D especially on a hot day when the smell oozing out of a leather interior would be quite magnificent :D:D it's a highly evocative smell to people of a certain vintage!

Your 100% right Max.... on a hot day the smell of those cars was unreal and it stayed with the car for the life of it, not like cars today were the "new" smell wears off after a few weeks :D Gemma and Sarah, next time you see an old car ask the driver if you can have a wiff of the interior :P

Lol, I will - even if i do get funny looks!!

    Eekers!!

Even when I smoked I hated the smell of stale fag smoke in cars. Never smoked in mine for that and because I didn't want to drop a fag while i was driving.

They're cutting the grass nearby, it's a lovely day so the window's open and it smells like heaven :D

  • Find an old 50s/60s Austin Cambridge or Morris Oxford on a hot day,no car will ever beat that smell :D

    What are they like?

My car (bizarrely) still smells new. It's nearly 22, but my mum had one the same when I was little and I recognise the smell.

Oooh and i thought it was fading but it isn't
