Not Standing In The Rain

The start of day 2.....

Slept really badly last night but I'm pretty sure that was my body demanding wine after a couple of weeks of excess. ;)

But already I'm beginning to remember how good it is not to smoke! For example a couple of days ago, not long after getting out of bed, I'd have stood outside the back door to have the first smoke of the day.

On a day like today, when it's absolutely chucking it down, I can see the ridiculousness of standing outside in the rain in my dressing down. :D

Well, the patch is on and I'm actually feeling okay about this.

I don't need to smoke. There is no situation that smoking will make easier, better, more enjoyable, less stressful.

That'll be my mantra for today!

  • I read "How to stop smoking and stay stopped for good" by Gillian Riley and my mantra was the essence of the message in the book, which goes something like,

" I have the desire to smoke. I have the freedom to smoke. One puff and I'll be smoking.

Either I choose to return to smoking.

orFor now I choose to accept this desire so I can enjoy all the benefits of not smoking.

I've just completed 5 months. The last month has been pretty stressful due to the sudden death of a young family member in the most awful circumstances and I can say I have felt at times like having a cig, but this little message has helped me through those odd moments when I have had the urge. Somehow making that choice definitely helps me.

I did have some support with Champix. I took it for about 6 weeks on a reduced dose as it made me feel so sick, but it gave me the initial impetus to quit that I somehow could not find on my own.

You are quite correct when you say:

I don't need to smoke. There is no situation that smoking will make easier, better, more enjoyable, less stressful.

Good luck..and well done for starting to be smoke free. It really is worth it. x

  • Nice post anti

    Very positive. :)

I know what you mean about the excess over Christmas.....I am not looking forward to the sleepless nights but a detox is most definitely overdue! .. gulp!

Glad you are starting to see the positives it helps so much when you do.

    Stay strong and happy :)

    Take care

  • REALLY hard day - afternoon mostly.

Friends came to visit, so a mix of nice food and a couple of glasses of wine made it so tempting. Three kids under 8 running amok didn't help either!

I also found a full packet and a half packet in a jacket I hadn't worn for a while. Both were immediately soaked under the tap and binned.

I'm going to go to bed now just to make sure.

To everyone who stopped with me on 1/1 - hope you're doing okay.

That's so true - smoking is a real pain if you think about it.

I was the only smoker in the house here so always went outside when I needed one and having to go out in the rain, snow, wind, dark, cold or whatever to smoke - same at work or on a night out - wasn't good at all.

It's great you'e got a good reason to keep off them!

Oh wow, that's real willpower - and doing that on day 2? You're really strong!

    Well done!
