I nearly caved today :(

Hi all

Hope you all had a great weekend?

Mine was going fine until today!

I just wanted to put this out there as it just goes to show how the smallest thing can make you think of packing it in!

We have a horse that for the past few weeks has had some really stressful days as the local farmer has some pigs....now believe me .... most horses seriously hate pigs!

So today we took delivery of a borrowed shetland to try and calm our horse down......

First of all the shetland went running to ours and because it is so small ours (we think) thought it was one of the pigs!

He went mental!!

Galloped the full length of the field, jumped the electric fence and was heading at a serious pace towards the field gate! We were sure he was going to jump it too, but he didn't .... thank the stars we closed it!

Within one minute they were then happily grazing together!

My heart rate had just settled so we brought them both in to feed them. Again everything was great until we let them both back out again and it was like world war 3 had started!!

I dived out the way into the stable and they took off squealing, kicking and trying to bite! .... then once again settled down and started grazing next to each other.

Now this is totally normal behaviour for horses when they meet for the first time (wouldn't life be interesting if people behaved like this, maybe get a few funny looks though trying to sniff peoples bums! lol :D )

But my stress levels were soaring and that was it.....I was going to drive 10 miles to the nearest shops to buy some tobacco!!

Sorry that was bit long winded but it just shows I'm not out of the woods yet...what happened was completely normal and should have been expected but my reaction of wanting to light up straight away gave me a bit of a shock.

Thank God I didn't and I have chalked it down as another learning experience.

Anyway, sorry to off load all that but just wanted to let off steam

Hope you have a good Monday....if there is such a thing! :D

Take care all

Greg

  • Sounds very stressful, the main thing is you didn't cave...tomorrow is another day :-)

    Goodnight, Karen x

  •

that does sound very stressful :(and your right there are going to be lots of times when either due to stress or upset and sometimes a sudden good thing happening is going to make you think you need a ciggy as thats what you done as a smoker you smoked to ease stress and calmed down by smoking and smoked to celebrate

you just have to be on your guard when those feelings come along and find something else to do to distract your mind till it passes

the further along the journey you go the easier it will become as you are retraining your mind not to automatically think of smoking

onwards and upwards is the way to go

  • Good on you Greg for realising the futility of smoking in terms of what difference it would have made to what was going on around you; you've done really well though, you've only been quit a month so give yourself lots of credit :)

  • Greg i agree with everybodys replies:D

it might also be the 1st time youve really had stress with the horses since u quit, if this is the case its triggered a habit from your past to light up, so youve done really well

good on ya Greg Sian xx

  • Nice to meet you too Greg and thankyou for your reply to my thread.

I hope you've had a good day and that the horses have settled down.

Keep smiling, we can do this.

Jeez, a few of us have had a wee stushie lately, and to my knowledge I think we've all passed the bar! Well done on coping with a stressful situation, way to go Greg:)

  • Nifty/Nutmeg - I've been wobbling today too, although I'm managing to handle it.

Must be something in the air!!! We're doing just fine though, group hug:)

There's certainly more of me to wobble now, that's for sure:). My office junior was telling me she's bought red sequinned shorts for our Christmas Do, she'll be gorgeous. I'll be wearing shorts too, hee, hee, of the Spandex variety:)

  • Well done for staying off them!! I'm only at 2.5 months but I have noticed that when I first gave up and was stressed, all I wanted was a cigarette - I guess it's another of the usual triggers. For me now though, It doesn't really happen - just getting out and having some fresh air for 5 minutes usually works.. so hang in there.. it'll get easier very soon..

  • Thank you all once again for your messages of support.

This site, or should I say the people that inhabit it, give you faith in the human race again! :)

The horses are much more settled now but I don't see them through the week because of work so my better half looks after them on her own....which suits me until they have fully settled in!

    Selfish or what? :D

    Thank you folks

If you think the office junior is going to upstage you, just give her some really horrible jobs to do .... mwaahahahahaha!

  • Wow! That does sound stressful, well done for not caving and I am so impressed by the others who didn't cave when tempted too. Keep it going!:)

  • willpower

wow Greg, you had some serious willpower!! I'm so happy for you that you made it through!

  • Hey Nifty...that's amazing...isnt there a saying about wild horses couldn't drag me away...or something like that...well it sort of says something about the way you coped...if you get my drift...well done...keep it going!!!
