96 Hours+ done!

Hi all! :)

Yesterday was the worst day so far, I am glad the shop nearest to me was shut at that time or else I would have been SO tempted, I don't even want to think about that :o

Today was ace! A lot easier (being careful of not speaking too soon) and feeling really good. I have a horrible taste in my mouth which I cannot get rid of by any amount of brushing. I have read in other threads that it may be bacteria which up until now have been killed by smoking? Could this be correct and if so then what should I do about it?

Food and drinks taste amazing already (ignoring the constant weird taste in my mouth) and I have developed a cough which I guess is all the rubbish shifting from my lungs!

Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far, its truly appreciated,

Paul.

All of the above very normal, I found the first 3 days horrendous and after that it just got better and just the odd day being hard. Well done Paul, you really have done great cos I dont think it has been easy for you but you have stuck with it so good on you.:) It will get easier and easier.

Thanks a lot Hazel, your advice is awesome! :)

This taste in my mouth is really getting me down, should I go and see a doctor or will it pass? Is it really bacteria that were usually killed by smoking? My tongue is a bit off colour (not any more than when I was smoking).

Thanks for any advice received, its truly appreciated.

Hey Paul. Well done getting over that 3 day hurdle. I had and still do have a strange taste though it is getting less and less. Without getting too gross I think it is my sinuses draining cause if I really blow my nose it goes away.

Not sure though. It could also be the bacteria all rebalancing or just basically the circulation returning to my mouth... I was going to give it a few more months cause it is slowly getting better and better. And check it with my dentist at next apptment.

Hi Paul its Paul, not sure how Paul is getting on in that other thread but I will check in a minute now that you have reminded me :)

Thanks for the advice (and all your help so far), its really awesome to have people that actually care here. The people I know IRL don't seem too interested that I made this choice, that's up to them and I completely get that, but its great to have people to speak to here who know what on earth I am on about lol!

This taste is pretty horrible, maybe its always been there and I haven't noticed. Luckily with my job I get regular dental appointments so I know what I am asking in a few months time if its not gone!

I hope all is well and thanks once again for the support so far! This place rocks!

Paul :)

Achhhhh. Don't worry about those around you. You're not doing it for them. If they are smokers they most likely don't want to hear it cause they don't want to be reminded of what they are doing themselves. And never smokers don't get it either really....

Best place is with other non-smokers ask around you'll find loads of them around you in the real world too... And they are great for sharing the stories with ;)

And of course all of us are here if you need some propping up...

Keep at it

Paul

Paul, I got meds from the doc and it cleared up within a couple of days. I wish I hadn't waited so long but I had been to my dentist, one of the best in Scotland, and he didn't say anything was wrong. I must have waited about 4 weeks before realising I needed something to get rid of it.

Thanks a lot Una, I give it until Monday ( I can see my dentist/doctor then) and if its not gone then I am doing something!

Yikes Una now you got me thinking I need something from the docs rather than sit it out. What was the tablets from the docs for Una ? Did doc say ? Just wants know what I'm maybe dealing with here and if my mouth might fall off!

Last night I was at a work night out and had a lot more to drink than I had planned. I wasn't tempted at all which amazed me! I really think I can see it through this time. Smokers are smelly to me now, I didn't realise how much I used to stink even after I had finished smoking!

Thank you so much to all that have offered advice so far! :)

Thanks for the warnings and Derek for warning me about what is yet to come. I am so sure that I am going to do it this time but all this additional information, support and advice is greatly appreciated!

I won't be going anywhere soon, this place is awesome. I just wish more people would try and quit! :)

Me too mate me too, my partner is still a ful ltime smoker but now, has resigned to smoking out side the flat which is a big help lol i would bever stop him smoking in the kitchen as i used to so would bever be a hypocrete. My partner watching me closely on everything and is still not convinced to quit yet and he said i was a right little btch at times lol but hey i smoked 23 years and only 34 what do you expect lol.

it will get easy mate, its all in the head!! just stay focused and plan for the tuff times..

most important advice i can give is to not change your routine... if you smoked at work, keep going out with them on breaks, keep so******ing in pubs or firends who smoke, put your self in your normal situations but just dont smoke... i found this way helped me not feel i was mising out and after 3-4 weeks i was back to normal, and when my friends at work would say lets go for afag, i would go out smiling giggling but not think of the cigs i still dont 4months in.... i drink normally , go out side with all smokers in pubs, at work, with partner, i even remind him after meals ect to have one, i have become me agian but a non smoker me :-) and you too will be the same!!!

Had a great day, even if this post doesn't read that way!

My daughter told me my back is covered in spots (I had seen a few on my chest and upper arms but not thought much of it) and boy was she right! Did a bit of reading on possible causes and it could well be all the toxins clearing from the body after the years of damage I have done. Anyone fancy dot to dot? :D

Also I still have a horrible taste in my mouth, been doing a bit of interweb research and it seems that it could just be my taste returning or all the mess in my lungs making its way out (eurghh!). Some have mentioned that it can take up to 2 weeks for the taste to subside so I am going to wait a bit before seeing the doctor/dentist.

Still going well, thanks to this place! :)

Hi Paul

Just something which I think of which puts things into perspective (I posted to you in when you posted to me)

Smoking doesn't enhance occassions

Smoking doesn't make bad situations better

I think of the above and also

NOPE not one puff ever which someone posted to me on this forum

just think how great you feel without having to force them 20 - 30 rollies down your neck every day.:D

Also ask yourself 'do you want to not smoke more than you do' - answer is always yes :)

Sorry if I ramble just want you to know how well you've done and it's all mind over matter - if you ever feel like you did in your first post that you were tempted - you are only craving for an illusion that doesn't exist - there can never be just one puff or cig and then you will have to smoke a whole load of them which will taste like crap and you will feel like crap too!!!! - That's what I tell myself.

Take care Michellex
