First of all welcome to a great place :D

Where you will find a warm welcome and people that all know what your going through some are at the same stage as you while others are further along in there own journey

We all support each other along the way with encouragement and tips to help you to gain the power back from that addicitve white poisonous harmful stick that controls your every breathe tempting you to have just one as it wont hurt but its lying everytime you inhale the crap that is in a ciggy your just feeding your addiction which in turns makes you crave even more

how much longer do you want to let it control your life stopping you from enjoying life without constantly looking for either places you can smoke when your out or having to stop what your doing to smoke

Most of the people that have been quit a long time will all tell you that they never ever thought that they could do it and stay quit for as long as they have me included

It is achievable you just have to take that first step in saying

NO I AM NOT GOING TO SMOKE TODAY

AND I AM GOING TO GET THE POWER BACK TO CONTROL MY LIFE

Keep repeating these two phrases everytime you feel a crave/yearn come on and distract your mind and hands till it passes which it will

Some people do have afew days of discomfort depending on if your using NRT and any other smoking aid or if your not using anything but it does pass it does get better and easier there are so many tips on here to aid you in your quit just remember if your struggling and need help just post someone if not more will offer you as much support and encouragement as you need and want

You can do this have and faith in yourself to get through it and

GET THE POWER BACK

You will get to a stage when you will go for a whole day of not even thinking about smoking

So come on start a thread and introduce yourself and start your own journey to a fresh new life one that you control one that you own and you will get to save money in the process not just by the fact your not having to pay out for ciggys baccy papers filters lighters etc but your going to save by not having to use more perfumes or afterspray to mask the smell which btw doesnt do that you just think it does

Writing a list of reasons as to why your quitting is a good way to start as you can re read them everytime you start to feel you cant carry on

You just have to learn to distract and keep thinking in the moment some have gotton through this period of saying if i still feel this bad i will smoke in a hour or after dinner or in the morning and keep busy till that time comes and then repeat that process this helps to keep that smoking side of you calm and then when later comes you just repeat the process again and again till as i said before you will first of all go through half an hour then an hour and so on till that moment when you suddenly realise that your thoughts are not full of wanting to smoke

So come on join this great site stop lurking in the background and take a deep breathe and post something it can just be a short sentence like

Hi ive just quit and im on day 1 or Hi i want to quit and im planning on doing so next week or whatever

or even i need help as i want to quit but not sure what i can use to help me as there is too much choice around

and once you get that out the way its easy peasy japaneasy

sorry if ive made any typos etc

by the way hope you like cat pics :D hehe

come on you know you want to

we dont bite

honest

well not hard anyways :p

onwards and upwards is the only way to go

Carol

Day Two - Really Really Hard Now

Thanks for your post Carol62 I am about 42 hours in to not smoking without any NRT. I am trying to keep strong but day two seems much harder than day one. The craving seems to be non-stop rather than coming in waves. reading the posts is really helping at the the moment.

Oooh Dani yes. At 42 hours cravings tend to be non-stop. I found it just mental for the first three days. Hang in Dani. Hang on. That wont last long. I promise. Its gonna be much more manageable soon. Trust us. Dont give in.

Seems as I'm a non smoker now :) I'm gonna try no alcohol for stoptober instead! :D

I've signed up for Stoptover - though I am still smoking at the moment, though I'd climb on board and have a look for preparation! I've started to cut down already - and on about 5 a day at the moment. Was going to try for 2 a day next week but worried I won't be able to and might be best just to quit cold turkey! What do you think?

nsd_user663_51617 profile image
nsd_user663_51617

Bloodbinds, each to their own my friend but for me it has to be cold turkey as you need to purge yourself of nicoteen 1st before you tackle the mind games which is the hard bit.

Good luck

Cant say i like the massive red dot with a countdown occuring within it which is being used for the stoptober campaign. it would terify me if i was still pre-quit.

Thanks Carol. I'm new. On Day 5 after a 30 year, 40 a day habit. Doing OK but haven't done any long journey's in the car yet..........most people thought my car had tinted windows not realising it was just me in a haze of cigarette smoke! I'll make sure I have plenty of mints in there instead:)

For any newbies the best thing I can say is listen to Carol. She gives great advice...

She also loves cats and funny pictures and can keep you laughing all the way through your cravings. I know a lot of people on the forum respect her and her opinions.

Another one to the list

HI Everyone,

I joined the Stoptober too...This is the 4th time of giving up.been smoking 27 yrs.....I find the actual giving up easy...the 1st 2 weeks are not a problem for me... its from there on I start to crumble and wilt . Which I cant understand as by then I can smell rancid stale fag smoke a mile off so that in itself should put me off

So will be floating around here with you guys as if I can get past 3 months (most ive done) Im home and dry.....

Sorry for waffling on :D

Yeah I'm a bit like that - the initial quitting is easy enough for me, I can usually go a few weeks without being that bothered... then I start to crumble and miss it - and then there are social events which make me want it soooo bad! Fingers crossed I can do it!

Good luck to everyone starting tomorrow!
