First 5k run booked....

OK..... I've taken the plunge (or rather the missus has) and we're registered for our first 5k run, a fun run though it is, but it's 5k nonetheless, on Sunday 14th October. My time for the 1.5 mile route that we mapped out has gone from 19min 17secs run on 29th August to 16min 22secs, run an hour ago. But that hurt to be honest!

Still, considering I couldn't wrap a pallet in shrinkwrap at work without getting breathless back in June, I'll settle for that bit of pain anytime.

Sadly we registered two days ago and last night my missus pulled her Achilles tendon and is currently on rest hoping it clears up for next month; I hope it does because she deserves the chance to do this. Depending on how this run goes I have tentative plans for next year, but I don't want to tempt fate yet!

So there you have it; from smoking like the proverbial chimney to running regularly and now hoping for a little medal on the 14th (we do get them if we finish, I checked!), thanks to this forum

Great stuff Bear. Well done you and your lovely missus. Hope she recovers in time. I'm already guessing at your tentative, next year plans. :D

Now that's a great story and sure to be an inspiration to the new quitters. It CAN be done!

While I'm not taking up running (bad knees), I joined a gym the other day and have begun getting regular exercise. It feels good to do stuff like that and not be grasping for breath!

Thanks to all and yes Carol that's what I've had to do, be butler for a few days. Her heel's sorting itself out it seems so that's good, it's not as sore as it was.....hope everyone's had a good weekend :)

Nearly there...

My first 5k run is coming up, Sunday morning at 10am. I did a 16m 01s 1.5 mile circuit last night (my first time was 19m 17s back on Aug 29th). That hurt and it doesn't help that I'm now carrying more weight :o!

My wife's Achilles injury has not improved so a mate of her's is taking her place unfortunately but she's up for the next one.

So if I can go 112 days without a fag and end up running as well in that time, considering how much I smoked, anyone has to have a chance....;) Just stick with this forum, it's the best thing I've done in along time.

Thanks Carol, I think they are, but they're probably more amazed than anything, I don't think they thought they would ever see me quit....:o
