Through our healthcare scheme at work we can get reduced subscription to Fitbug. I wondered if anyone had signed up for the Fitbug and what they thought about it. fitbug.com

I had a look - I haven't done it myself so this is just an opinion based on the website, but it looks like a lot of money for what is essentially a calorie counter and a pedometer. If you have a smartphone you can get any number of apps that do the same job for a couple of quid.

Still, if your work discount is really good it might be worth a trial.

Good luck!

Thanks, Hels. I have MyFitnessPal on my phone. I might just stick with it for the moment.

Fitbug user

Hi EllieC,

I'm a fitbug user and have been for about 18 months or so. When I joined Fitbug I was obese, a smoker, seriously unfit and generally unhappy with myself. Over the last 18 months I've dropped 33lbs and counting (I'm still about 6lbs overweight but I'm nearly there!!!), I've quit smoking, I'm now actually quite fit and I'm much healthier and happier. The thing that differentiates Fitbug from an app (because i've used myfitnesspal in the past as well) is that you wear it every day and it's a constant reminder to keep reaching your targets. If I get home and check my bug and it says I haven't done enough then I'll go for a walk after dinner. It's all about small realistic and achievable changes that over time has changed my life. I know that sounds a bit dramatic but that is exactly what it has done. It also sets you new targets every week to keep motivating you along your journey, has great recipes and health articles every week and also has member challenges to give you that extra push! There is a lot more to fitbug than I've seen on any app so far and now they've launched the fitbug air which is a bluetooth smart device so it syncs wirelessly to your smartphone! Easily worth the £65 a year!

Good luck! :-)
