I know just how you feel. I didn't think I'd last 10 minutes but here I am, 3 months tomorrow. Good luck from another redhead

Thanks Una, think I'm just imagining that I'll feel desperately ill in the morning without a smoke! One day at a time though, I'm determined to make it :)

Thank you, it's nice to have other folks around who understand. None of my family or friends are smokers, time to join them I think! :)

Good luck Redhead. Qutting can be exciting - give it a few days and you will feel like you are on top of the world. :)

Good luck Redhead. You're making the right decision.

One minute, one hour, one day at a time. Whatever it takes. You CAN do this :).

I wish they would make it a sticky because I have to keep searching for it. I've read it many times myself

Like most things, the worst part is the thought of it beforehand. The actual process of it is really straightforward, you just don't smoke. It's not gonna kill you, worst that'll happen is you'll be a bit agitated & a bit under the weather as your body starts healing.

Just remember that smoking is the cause of that, not the cure for it & dies down quickly enough that within a couple of weeks you'll feel so much better. A couple of weeks of feeling a bit off is a decent trade for the huge amounts you gain from it.

When you do this, you'll never look back.

Meant to say, I started CT and almost made it easily through the 3 days but then all hell broke loose and I had to give in. I had some patches handy. I used them for 8 weeks. Wish I could have done without them but it wasn't to be. I use an inhalator sometimes when I'm having alcohol and I don't hold it like a cigarette. I'm glad that I can be in the company of smokers and it doesn't bother me. I'll be cheering you on :-)

I think you're right there MrE, I'm smoking my last few cigarettes today and actually wish they were done so I can start stopping! Much easier to focus then I hope! I only every smoke between 7 and 8 in the mornings and 6 and 11 at night on workdays - never during the day - so those are the times that'll be the hardest. But my times are kind of broken down into chunks so, it's a chunk at a time :)

good luck

Like they all say one day at a time ..... If you can stick to that it really does give you a fighting chance...

Try not to look at it as if your missing out on something and more that you have gained something, as the days roll by you will understand the gains ...

Hope it goes well for you, the people on here really want to help and they are so lovely

Keep the faith

Good Luck Redhead. Your post reminds me so much of a member here called Sue (here we go). That was pretty much what she posted and she is approaching that one year mark soon.

Hi Redhead (and Karri!)

Karri's right - I posted something very similar before quitting though I'm just one of many who will completely understand what you mean. This forum will be the most fantastic source of support, help, advice - so hope to see more of you over the coming days/weeks/months.

It is ALL about getting your head in the right place - wanting to quit more than you want to smoke. All you need to know is right here - read around the whole forum - there is masses which will help. A LOT.

All the best - keep in touch,

Sue

Hi Redhead.

Wish i was a redhead, I'm mostly grey

Don't be scared of this journey, you don't have to suddenly develop the muscles of Usain Bolt or leap whole buildings in a single bound. You just have to take one step at a time.

It will get easier and easier the longer you go on, so keep your chin up and keep going, we're all here to help whenever you need it.

Happy quitting!

Una, thanks for posting that link. What a fabulous post that is... reading it has really helped me (approaching week 5 and suddenly struggling) as today I was really beginning to wonder if I am flawed in some way and just destined never to stop for good.

Great post and I would urge anyone struggling to read through it. I'm going to save it and read when I'm feeling in need of inspiration.

Redhead - hope your first day has seen you off to a good start.

Lauren, it's all thanks to Helsbelles. I don't know why the moderators won't make this a sticky. I felt the same as you. Everyone says it gets better and you feel you are the only one that it isn't getting better for. People don't want to post negative posts therefore you really feel there is something wrong with you.

Some days are great and you feel that at last there is a light at the end of the tunnel and then, bang, you feel as if you are back where you started.

It is different for everyone. Some have no problems at all from day one. I had a friend who woke up after smoking for 40 years and just stopped and never experienced anything more than constipation. Twelve years later she still hasn't smoked.

I haven't had even a puff for 3 months. To tell the truth, I am scared to try.

I had a bit of a catastrophe when I had stopped for 12 days so I went out and bought a pack. Next day I started at day one and I never want to do that again.

Yes it still seems to be causing me problems even though I don't have any cravings at all. I can be beside someone smoking and it doesn't bother me. I can't imagine why they want to do it.

I think my problems come from smoking for 50 years and it is all psychological. Food tasted great when I was smoking and now everything tastes horrible. Even chocolate and wine. I think this is what is making me depressed. I buy lots of expensive things to eat and even bought an expensive bottle of champagne and they all taste dreadful. I can afford to buy these things now because I haven't thrown away over £1000 buying cigarettes.

I've searched the net and tried all the cures to get the taste buds back to the way they were before I stopped but nothing has worked so far.

Be glad that you didn't wait for 50 years to stop. I will never smoke again, I am very sure of that and I know it 'will' get better.

Keep on quitting!!!!!!
