First time out; 1.5 miles!

Has the quit improved my fitness, it says here?

Well, I last ran in any capacity (I think) about 20 yards while helping the missus train for "Race For Life" in 2008 I think it was; the rest was training at a fast walk. Then before that I played football in 2003 but was in goal!

So today, 66 days after my last cigarette, me and the missus have just been out for a 1.5 mile walk / jog (admittedly more walk than jog!) in 27 minutes, but that included a stop of about a minute because she spotted a squirrel carrying a nut on the path ahead of us so we had to stop and watch him

First time out though, happy with that for now; as the saying goes, "a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". And, in this case, a squirrel :D.

Brilliant! I just wish I could get back into it. The couch to 5k programme is really good and it eases you into it gently. Have a look at it there is a podcast you can down load onto your ipod if you have one. It really is the best thing for enhancing your mood and great for your body.I am going to start again myself I know how good it can make you feel. Well done and keep me up to date on your progress. You improve quiclky at the start I remember that much!

I would congratulate you but I can't stop laughing :D

I know it's outrageous, I bet Mo Farah didn't have to put up with that sort of interruption :D

I haven't got anything as posh as an iPhone, just my legs and the road is all I have to work with! And Shelly, yes, new trainers, mega cheap off eBay but dead comfy! :)

That is the problem, finding someone to go out with.:( It is much easier when you have someone doing it with you because you support each other and you are more likely to stick with it. If you have just put it on round your middle then doing sit ups and other stomach exercises might help. I reckon with you being so young when your body adjusts properly the weight you have put on (which isnt much anyway) will drop off. I quit when I was 27 for 5 years and I put a bit of weight on and then I lost it all and got back to size 10. What about yout OH does he not fancy getting fit?

I have to be carefull with certain exercises as iv got scoliosis. So anything that gives me strain on me back or neck like sit ups just do me over. We're I'm in pain for days.

Oh dear, I dont know what that is I will have to google it but it sounds painful. Well you need to be carefeul then Shelley. Take some advice from your doctor before you start any exercise there might be stuff you shouldn't be doing?

Brilliant! I am going myself tonight. It is a lovely evening and no reason why I shouldn't. Sign up for a 10 k or a 5k first and I bet you will become hooked. They are great events, and then you can decide if you want to do the marathon.

Nothing wrong with a few choccy biccies....we had pasta and chicken after our "run", then the missus had ice cream and ruined the effect :D...... it's just nice to be able to do these things without wheezing and puffing; wouldn't even have entertained it before as I would not have gone 100 yards!

Third time out..

OK third time out in three days, on our 1.5 mile circuit we've measured out......went by myself as the missus is at work and we are taking the kids out for tea to celebrate both their college entries so she probably won't get out today.

Hammering it down with rain but at least it was cool, time went from 24m 58s yesterday to 19m 17s today; ran more this time but IT HURT!!

BUT! I could breathe! I was puffed out from running but 68 days on from my last fag, I could run and breathe!

Got in soaking wet and grinning like an idiot :D

Thanks Carol but I think it's quite a way beyond me, the only Marathon I can tackle at the moment is the chocolate bar ;)

However there is a 5k Fun Run near us in mid-October we're tentatively looking at....I've just been out and done 2k in 14 minutes, which was mostly running :o but hey it's only been a week since I first went out so I can't complain, feels good to be able to do it at all :D

That is a decent jogging pace for the stage that you are at AB. Really well done!:D I bet you feel fantastic dont you? I think you will be more than able to do the 5k in October. I love those events and it will spur you on to do more training and maybe then do a 10k. However you do as much as you feel you want to do. No pressure, you have achieved so much already, so pleased for you. You deserve it.

Thanks Haze, it hurts at the time but I wouldn't change that, I could not jog at all ten weeks ago so will settle for that any day! As for progress, will just have to see...
