Kind of want a smoke.

I know I will never smoke again. It was and is my time to quit. I believe today is day 114 smoke free.

Every once in awhile I want a cigarette. It's not an urge, it's not a craving. It's just a want. It took me a while to figure that out. At first I would panic and say to myself.....got to fight it, can't let it get me down. But now, I sort of just say so what?

My boyfriend smokes and 99% of the time now he smokes outside and not around me but once in a blue moon he will light up around me and I have to admit I enjoy the smell. I don't want to have one with him, I just enjoy the smell.

I think I know what my triggers are and can work around them but the sudden "I want" sort of surprises me.

Is this a normal part of the quit? I haven't read anyone else talking about this. Just cravings and urges.

Whatever you do , please don't tell me that I am doomed and will be going back to smoking...that can not ever happen again. I just spent 6 days in the hospital because of what smoking did to me. It took 4 months for my body to re-act to the not smoking anymore and get sick enough to get the crap out of me.

I WILL NEVER LIGHT UP AGAIN!!! Sorry for shouting but I mean it with every fiber in my being....ppat

Hi pat

I think we will always get that feeling out of the blue of just wanting one,

I did even when i had given up for 5 years, but keep being positive about never ever having another one, good luck :)

I think it's normal, we have so many random thoughts throughout the day, that it's unsurprising that at some point we think about smoking and as it'll always be an emotive subject for us we wonder about why the thought popped in our head.

The most important thing is to remember why you never want to smoke, why you'd never smoke another single cigarette, it seems clear that you have good reasons to stay a non-smoker, then if ever a passing thought turns into a temptation to light up, you'll stay strong.

Hi Pat,

You sound similar to my girlfriend. She quit six months ago but she still romances the cigarette even while knowing that deep inside she doesn't want to go back to smoking. At first that frustrated me somewhat, because I thought it was the beginning of a slow decline back into smoking, but now I have come to understand that she was just expressing the fact that she misses smoking because it was a part of her life and her character. She doesn't actually want to smoke, but somehow feels a part of her has disappeared.

I'm not sure what to say really, other than to hope that over time you find that smoking has little to no more relevance in your life.

Alex.

So true Slew .. smoking is just one of the many thoughts that pass through each day.

Pat .. reminds me of the Rolling Stones song. You can't always get what you want .. but you get what you need!

Thanks everyone...you all made me laugh. I really don't have a desire to smoke again, just that random thought in my head.

Like one day I got in my car and of course the first thing I did was reach for that smoke...it is so bred into us, those nasty habits and no matter how long it has been the cancer sticks try to catch you off guard. It won't catch me...I refuse!!!

NOPE.....Not One Puff EVER!!!! Smoke free for 116 days and counting!!! ppat
