Half a million fags....

My Quit Keeper informs me that I have not smoked 10,000 ciggies since I quit in July. Horrific. :(

This made me wonder just how many I must have smoked over the last forty years, so I sat down and did the maths. Not entirely scientific, but allowing for lighter smoking while still on pocket money, and my mega smoking, three pack a day habit in my twenties, the total came out at over 500,000.

This is truly disgusting. There is no doubt about it, I have had more than my share.

It's a wonder I am still bloody alive after all that.

Never again, though. :o

Wow, that's even worse than me!!! I calculated I'd smoked around 365,000 which was already unimaginable...

Hi Mrs T wow!!

Bet you couldn't believe it when you did the maths!!!

You have done so well in your quit.

Oh Mrs T! I have just got my calculator out and realised that I am right up there with you! I have never thought about it this way before. Maybe if I had, I would have stopped sooner?

I wonder if there is some proven science to this in terms of the numbers of cigarrettes in relation to smoking related diseases? It doesn't seem to be a coincidence that those of us who put away more fags in our time are the ones that have ended up with COPD, cancer and heart troubles. I'm sure that it's not a simple formula, but you would have to be really unlucky to get these things if you have only had, say, ten a day for ten years, rather than 40 a day for 40 years?

Anyway, as you say, Never Again! :o

I see from your quit date that you are nearly at the nine month mark. A big well done to you for that, and I intend to just keep on marching along behind you! ;)

This thread is making me feel queasy! I can't believe we used to do that to our bodies, the scary thing was I used to put my head in the sand about it. I never really thought about it until recently. I suppose that's what smokers are good at......being an ostrich when it comes to their health. Well, better late than never, and well done us!

This thread is making me feel queasy!

Good thing this isn't a U.S. forum... Half a million fags would make any red-blooded American queasy, for the wrong or the right reasons, swoon! :D:D:D

Now Alex...I am in America and I won't swoon over the half million or more smokes I tortured myself with. I am sick over it but I think we all are once we realize what we did to ourselves.

I wasn't one of the smart ones that quit before the damage was done. I have COPD, I have battled breast cancer and I just kept on smoking. I finally realized that I couldn't stand the coughing anymore, that's when I quit. I was up to 60 fags aday.....now that is scary!! Now i am smoke free and will never go back to my old habit!!! ppat in Wisconsin (LOL)
