Ok I've done this a few times before with varying degrees of success. The first time I became nico-free was using a forum like this and found it really helpful knowing that we were doing it together. Managed 11 months that time but then got complacent thinking I could just have the occassional cig .. then a packet and .. well the rest is history.
With each quit it maybe becomes harder to stay off as I know I can get off without too much trouble once the decision has been made.
But with my 50th birthday on the horizon I think it's ridiculous that I'm still going round in circles so this is it. For my own sake this time .. not for my young children who are now grown and all but flown the nest.
So .. equipped with patches, nico tabs (not keen on them for a long period as they're not kind on the mouth), chewing gum (yuch!) and my new electronic cigs (which did the job this morning taking the place of a cig I found lying there looking very innocent but which met it's unusual death of crushing instead of fading with an amber glow).. I'm en route to a new, healthier life.
Good luck to all you newbies and thanks for being there to share this crazy time.

I feel just the same as you, I'm on day 3 now which i've caved in before at  then I did 4 months last year & did the old 'I'll just have one'...
This time we can do it for ourselves, sending you bag fulls of luck
There seem to be a few of us who are going round again. In my case, I had quit for six months and failed over christmas. Stupid.
But I keep telling myself that this has to be the last time - I have passed that magic 50 mark, and am already bearing the scars of so many years smoking, so no excuses!
Like me, you have proved you can do it. Now we just have to prove that we can stick to it!
most people on here have had failed attempts in the past and then kicked themselves for smoking again
but you have to put those quits behind you
this is a new quit and remember the reasons why your quitting and the pitfalls for listening to that voice that says just one wont hurt and ignoring it
atm its shouting to be heard but the longer you ignore it the quieter it wilbe come think of it as an annoying kid who is whinging and having a tantrum because it cant get what it wants
it will start sulking when it realises that you mean business this time
and when you feel a craving coming on try and distract your hands and mind till it passes and it will pass
sipping water will help to distract play a game post and read posts on here
