Day 7 is here . .

:) X 7 . . . Day seven has arrived . . a full week with not even a smidge of nicotine passing my lips . . I'm so pleased. It's like, if I've done a week I feel psychologically on top of it a bit more . . and less likely to cave in.

Have to say that today has been a bit tough, although it's a bit of an illusion I think. Like I'm thinking the cravings aren't easing when actually they probably are easing quite a bit and that little devil is telling me lies.

But Sundays are a bit odd for me anyway . . I'm on my own just muddling through the day and cigarettes have been a big part of my 'chill out Sunday's' since the kids moved out . . Oooh I'll have a cuppa and watch this or that and have a ciggy . . Or Ooooh I've done all the ironing I deserve a sit down and a ciggy . . So I have felt a bit lost today but just kept distracting myself . . found some good minty breath freshener in the shops yesterday that gives a nice blast to help the cravings pass by.

Excellent, Jo :)

It's a great milestone getting to 7 days and now you're seeing a big space opening up between you as the coughing, wheezing smoker and this better healthier non smoking you.

Keep affirming to yourself exactly as you have been...done a period of time so why cave, the nicodemon is telling you lies and you know it when 'it' whispers in your ear.

Those distraction ploys will help supplant the old habits and welcome the newer healthier habits become the norm. Soon you'll look back and wonder what was so good about rewarding yourself with poison.

Have a great second week and the milestone of a fortnight :)

Thank you so much for that . . the support on this forum is amazing . . I'm looking forward to this week as I've planned a few treats for little rewards :) yet the fact I'm not chained to cigarettes is reward enough really, but I am making a big deal out of my little milestones to reaffirm the work I've done.

That’s great news Jo. What kind of treats have you planned? I'm curious what people do to reward themselves after such a huge accomplishment.

well done Jo, dont be fooled by the illusion of companionship that cigarettes brought. You can have time to yourself without cigarettes nudging there way in, see them for what they are ,an addictive drug.

Well in my opinion, if you set yourself rewards, then in your mind you're thinking you're depriving yourself by not smoking. I havnt given myself any rewards. Why should I reward myself for not inhaling poisons anymore? We don't NEED to smoke. Its not a survival requirement. We need NOT to.

That's just my view of it though. Some people might find rewarding themselves helpful. I wouldn't. Whatever gets us to stay smoke free and not feel deprived and miserable about it is all good! :)

Great mindset

Although I must admit to enjoying taking praise from my friends and colleagues whilst I was stopping smoking...and in fact still to this day :)

Sparky you probably wouldn't find them too interesting so I won't bore you :D

Let me guess:

[*]Facial

[*]Manicure

[*]Pedicure

I bought some really nice room freshener (to freshen up my home now there's no smoke . . some perfume :). . a pair of gloves (because all my old one's had a faint whiff of tobacco) . . and a curry (now that my taste buds are back) He heee

You're right there . . I have fantasies about 'that perfect smoke' but I also remember when I have caved into the crave on previous attempts, how horrible it tasted and how very different the experience was from the fantasy . . then the disappointment that I'd caved in . . no . . I am striving for complete freedom this time around.

Rewards are necessary in my situation . . I couldn't afford to treat myself before because all my spare cash went on my addiction . . this way I get to feel the benefit of not smoking just by simply not smoking . . and by being able to afford little treats now I can afford to and I feel I've done something good for myself and doing something else like treating myself emphasises the good work I'm doing on a psychological level . . which is all good to me . . plus I really enjoyed the curry I treated myself to :)

Hi jo. I have rewards planned for the first 3 days, then the first week and every week until I make a month. Having something to look forward to that I don't normally have will keep me going.

Sparky you probably wouldn't find them too interesting so I won't bore you :D

The first three day's I really and I mean REALLY looked after myself . . I self soothed at every possible opportunity . . I had bubble baths . . I had pedicures . . all at home stuff . . I ate chocolate . . I meditated . . and I have a wall chart with smiley faces on it and sunshine stickers! :D . . and yesterday I had a lovely curry that tasted AMAZING!! Now my sense of taste is getting better it was fab!

thanks. its just the best mindset for me, i didnt wanna feel like i was deprived and deffo dont wanna feel miserable for the rest of my life through feeling deprived!! i want to feel happy about it, and pleased that i dont do it anymore, rather than harbouring all the illusions of enjoyment and relaxation, when that didnt really exist anyway.

the biggest reward is getting my mate at work to think about stopping, she has been saying she wanted to for AGES!! where as i just decided i wanted to about a week before i actually did. i do keep getting praises by everyone but to be honest, i just want to get on with life as normal, just minus the cigs lol

I bought some really nice room freshener (to freshen up my home now there's no smoke . . some perfume . . a pair of gloves (because all my old one's had a faint whiff of tobacco) . . and a curry (now that my taste buds are back) He heee

oh i also bought nice air freshners. i used to anyway, but to no effect really as although i only used to smoke in the kitchen at the back door, there was no denying you could smell it in the whole of downstairs lol it is nice to be able to actually smell your perfume isnt it? lol

we are all different, whatever gets us there, doesnt matter what it is!! youre doing well anyway.

i must admit i did go to boots after work on thursday, not unusual for me though, i like my smellies and hair stuff, and i was running out but thought id treat myself to some new make up as im feeling really spotty lately and real bad under eye circles and it was nice to have a little spree without feeling the "pinch" that we have when we smoke. i used to hate feeling skint every week. i get paid weekly at work, and once id taken out a little bit for cigs, a little bit for holiday saving fund, a little bit for busfares and lunches i had nowt left!! all these little bits add up!! so without the little bit for cigs i am noticing my money situation is more relaxed lol

Great minds think alike. I have treated myself to bubble baths, body butters and other beauty treats. I wouldn't normally buy perfume branded bubble bath but that's what makes it so special. I an going to have a real home pampering session. Also bought that album renaissance on I tunes as it's supposed to bring inner calm. The bath stuff is my treat for the first 3 days and on my week anniversary im treating myself to a bottle of perfume. 2nd week a facial, 3rd week I'm going all out on hand repair creams etc and when I hit my month an Indian head massage.

Cav you know us women too well :D

oooooh i do most of this anyway lol i love a good bubble bath!! i really love the radox bubble baths, ive got relax and sleep easy in the bathroom cupboard at the min. i dont do salon treatments but i do like to have a home facepack and bubble bath. nowt more relaxing than that, i love it. stick my soap and glory hairband thing on the lot :D ive been using e45 intense recovery lotion, i always seem to get red raw in winter! so thought that would help.

also with regards to body butters, have you tried the gok wan stuff? he does in boots at christmas time the gift sets, its called gorgeous and its beautiful!! also does one called purely yours which is nice but not as nice as the gorgeous one x

This is a real extravagance as it cost me £36 for the bubble bath.

If it helps...
