I'm not attention seeking or anything, but I literally did buy some Golden Virginia and Rizlas this evening. 29 days quit so far! I didn't smoke any yet. I'm just looking at the packet on the desk.
I was just waddling around Tesco you see, with stomach bloat, a fair amount of extra weight and a giant hole in my mid-brain and it just occurred to me to go and buy some...

That's one big temptation you've wrung yourself right there. And by your comment, "I didn't smoke any yet", there's a strong indication that you shall. But 29 days quit is too far to rush into this without some serious and down to earth thinking.
Get that done...appreciate that you have moved 29 days into territory that previously you would not believe that you could. Seeing is believing and believe me you have done yourself extremely proud with that 29 days.
Best thing to do now is get the tobacco and rizlas and run them under the water which will totally quash any chance, nevermind how small, that you will smoke.
Sure. I just don't know how to get rid of my bloat Cavalier. I mean I'm kind-of OK until I eat something - anything - then I inflate like a balloon for the rest of the day. It's really getting me down.

I totally appreciate how this can get you down. The same effect crashed a couple of previous attempts for me. But you need to separate what's actually happening here. The wee nico voice is busy harping away saying that it will get better if you start smoking. But seriously, will it? Not at all.
I've read a few comments over the years saying that nicotine is the bigger killer and whilst you are quitting that habit put up with the lesser of the 2 evils. Plenty time to then start working the extra muffin top off. And you'd probably find yourself much more adept at that because you'll have found a fantastic resource within yourself to accomplish what you put your mind to.
Find a new way to reward yourself for staying on the straight and narrow. With the extra fitness you must feel you've gained from near on one calendar month of a quit you could go out for a run, a walk if running is too much at present.
Even if you are still eating the new habit of getting out and exercising will instill the bedrock of a newer better and much happier you.
You will lose the weight but the main battle just now is nico. Remember Hunger, Anger, Lonely, Tired (HALT) and apply that to your thoughts...then you'll see nico trying to blind side your and your plans for a better, fitter future you.
Can I just remind you of a post you made earlier today to someone:
Day 9, sweet. What a waste it would be to smoke now. I mean if you do that, sometime in the future there's another 9 days of suffering to go through!
But yes, there are days like that. I totally empathise. I'm 1 month in and I still get them. They just happen less frequently as time goes by I think.
Edit: Erm...I meant to delete the 2nd para. in your quote. But since I didn't....the craves do get less frequently as time goes by...absolutely 100% for sure they do. Just give them a gentle or big kick up their collective arses each time you get them and you'll notice.
Yup, been there got the extra extra large undies etc. Besides the money you've saved from not smoking can go to a new top tomorrow. But don't buy anything real expensive cos it'll end up much too big. Believe me, I've got a drawer full
Erm...the tobacco and skins? Wet I hope :-|
Edit: I've got every confidence in you. So off I go to feed my ex fat face cos I'm late for dinner...although in this household we call it 'tea'
If you are suffering bloat, then going to the doctors is a pretty easy fix. Bloating is water retention and some diuretics could help. Your body has been operating under the influence of thousands of chemicals that are now gone, and it may be struggling to find homeostasis. I would recommend a quick trip to the doctors, if you want lots of medical jargon to throw their way, drop me a PM
Damn your self-esteem. What about the fact that you have quit smoking? That in itself is wonderful. You can always lose weight but you can't lose cancer or COPD or any of the other bad things smoking does to you. This is a small thing to put up with to be smoke free and it to shall pass. Just stick it out and hang in there. I am looking to you to guide me as I am only 24 days into my quit. Don't let me down!!! ppat
Totally agreed, sitting there with that looking at you is just a open invite, glad you've got that far and i can't wait to get to your stage which is only a few days off, please stay ahead off me and don't let me pass you as that means you would have opened that packet :mad::mad: good luck and please keep going, your on a month
I have no idea what to suggest to the doctor, who almost certainly won't have a bloody clue what I'm going on about!
He/she certainly won't if you don't explain to them. But I fear that you under estimate them anyway.
Today's a new day and for you 30 days quit which is outstanding. There'll be a whole host of folk behind you that would be truly envious of that quittage.
Start focussing upon the positives again. That includes how you can positively get around the bloating issue. Like we suggest writing your reasons for quitting do the same for the bloating or any other concerns you have.
Move towards getting these sorted and tick that list off. Like how you've come through to 30 days you'll be amazed at your ability to deal with this other issue. And the best thing is that it is YOU
Hi, you’ve done incredibly well to get to day 30. I would tell the doctor everything you’ve written here (maybe print it out and take it with you), it doesn’t matter if it makes sense; it’s their job to come up with a diagnosis or suggestions.
I went to the doctors in the first week of January when my recurring acid indigestion got so bad that over the counter remedies didn’t work anymore. The doctor suggested seeing the practice nurse to help with stopping smoking AND the weight issue (I was already overweight before I stopped smoking). It’s a bit like weight watchers (but not as expensive), I get weighed and we discuss what I’ve eaten and we laugh about how it’s not really surprising I’ve put on weight! I respond quite well to goals set by other people rather than myself (hope that makes sense), so the first goal was to quit smoking and the next goal, which we will be working on in the next few weeks, is losing the weight. It doesn’t work for everybody but as far as the quitting smoking is concerned it’s working for me so I’m encouraged that it will work for the weight issue.
Also, one of the most relaxing & beautiful things is the "legs up the wall post." It's the most relaxing thing in the world for me. It really works. So I've pasted a video for that too.
