Hello,

This is my first day as a non smoker after being smoke free for 15 months and starting again. No excuse - I had a fag thinking "one won't hurt" and before I knew it I was back to 20 a day.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

It's not going to be an easy ride but with support we can all achieve it.

Hey Razz,

Congrats for getting back on the wagon. Lots of people on here say you learn so much from previous mistakes, so i wish you all the best. Just persevere, and remain positive.

Are you going cold turkey or using any nicotine products?

Hi Razzmatazz,

good luck today. My quit day is tomorrow, and i really relate to your post. I stopped for nearly 13 years and, in party mode with new partner, spontaneously did the "just one" thing. Well, nearly two years on i've been struggling for the last year to give up again. Like you say, it wasn't long before i was back to 20 a day. So, go for it, and tomorrow i'll be right behind you. This group feels like a big plus to me. Spent the last year wasting time and money with hypnotherapy etc etc. Stay in touch x

Hi BruceyB & Hilary,

Thank you for your posts. Nice to meet you both. :)

BruceyB - I'm using NiQuitin Mini's. On my last quit I used Champix and it worked really well but I want to steer clear of "popping" pills again! How long have you been quit Brucey? Are you using any NRT?

Hilary - I look forward to you joining me tomorrow hun - are you going to be using any NRT? Keep in touch and let me know how you get on. :)

Hi :)

Good luck to you all with your quits, I've been lurking around this place like a bad smell since 2009 quitting then relapsing and like you guys, ending up back as a professional smoker. I'm using NRT (patches) and like you Hilary, I have spent a fortune over the last few years on trying to quit, with hypnotherapy etc. I think the key to it is education and reaading about nictoine addiction (I'm sure someone will be along to post the links to some goo sites - WhyQuit, Woofmang, etc), also a forum like this where we know we are not alone.

I'm on day 3 and having serious battles today but I will get through it

How are you finding the Minis Razz? I had some but I get such bad hicups with them that I can't use them lol - I suppose it did take away the craving as I was concentrating on trying to get rid of the flaming hicups.

Anyway I sincerely wish you all the best with your quits, whatever method you are using. :)

Razz, Its day 2 for me. Yesterday went easier than I expected, a few cravings but nothing I couldnt shake off. A walk out of my office, outside (to a no smoking section) and take a few big deep breaths. Its seems to help lots.

Today i feel odd. My body actually feels less 'achy' but the hot/cold sweats are taking thier toll. I have gone cold turkey. I felt that I didnt smoke enough to justify any NRT. I do hope i've made the right decision....

I guess I can also fall back on some gum or the mini's should a desparate need arise...

Hilary, good luck to you for tomorrow. Jump on the train to a healthier life of freedom! :D:D

Take each hour as it comes. I get a worried feeling if I think to far ahead. I assume thats normal?

Hi Tinks,

Thank you for you post. Yes you will get through it. Hah! says me on Day 1 lol. But i've been there before (and you have too).

I've only taken 2 mini's so far... touch wood - no hiccups!!! :D

I need this forum as I need to keep myself distracted and also for the support. It always helps to be able to tell people how you are feeling.

Anyway Tinks - I look foward to hearing from you tomorrow on Day 4.

BruceyB,

As you say take it an hour (or minute) at a time. Keep yourself distracted and avoid temptation (good on you for avoiding the smoking area!).

I agree you can always keep some gum or mini's at hand and take one if you feel the need. By going cold turkey the nicotine will leave your body quicker -but you will still get cravings so be on your guard.

Just keep taking deep breaths BruceyB....
