Just a Thumbs Up for New Year's Quitters

Thought I would drop by the old forum and give a thumbs up to all you New Year's quitters. Just to let you know I'm working on year 5 (or is it 4....? I've forgotten). I don't think I could have done it without the characters on this forum. Of course, we are all gone now, having quit and continued with our lives....most of the time we don't even remember having ever smoked.

So, while it is hard hard hard that first week and month it does get easier every time you don't take a smoke. It's like tearing down a huge building one brick at a time. Sometimes it seems impossible, but it is very possible.

The awful truth is that you quit smoking the same way you started--one cigarette at a time, except it's just the opposite--you refuse one cigarette at a time.

Good luck all, and congratulations on your quits!

Rob

Quit Method: Cold Turkey

When: I've forgotten. Search my name on the list & you'll find me back when I was a nervous wreck and craving cigs.

Times I've Relapsed: None. It was too hard to quit to ever have to start that over again from square one.

I have just been reading through some posts and RobW if you do log on and read this, thank you for you post it has helped me tremendously. Particularly the bit above. Most of us didn't pick up a packet of 20 and smoked just like that, we had our first smoke with our mates to be cool, thought it was disgusting but still kept on trying because of course we didn't want our mates to think we weren't cool by saying 'this is disgusting' persistance pervailled and before we knew it we were professional smokers. Now I'm persisting to be a professional non-smoker as we all know now that it's not cool, in fact with hindsight it would have been cooler to have said no behind the bikesheds all those years ago! Thanks again
