Hi everyone! have been sat here reading your posts for about half an hour, you are all doing so well! i'm on day 4 now and i THINK it's getting better, although struggling tonight!! The biggest improvement is that the brain fog seems to finally be lifting. but cravings are hitting me hard now!! I think it's more fear, as i keep thinking 'i can't keep this up FOREVER' as it seems impossible, and i worry that i'll be feeling like i'm 'missing out' on smoking for the rest of my life, which is stupid!! i've got a great life, 2 lovely kids, and here i am worrying that i'm deprived of a stinky stick that could kill me... madness!! I am also eating enough for about 3 people every day as it's the only thing that makes up for it!must get to the gym! can't wait for these cravings to calm down as they are really getting to me now!! this rant has helped though :)

Good Rant

I've been reading a few posts here and there all day and it is really encouraging to read about others going through the same thing at the same time. I quit on New Years day and today is definitely the worst day (#4). You have to make it through because we need you to. It won't last forever and we will all make it through together. On a side note, I have also been eating enough for about 3 people, and have taken on a new affinity for chewing ice, which seems to help...

Hi Kimbo,

Well done for getting this far!

I know what you mean about the fear. My early posts say much the same thing. But you don't need to worry about forever. All you need to do is not smoke today - you can do that, you've proved it! Just take it one day at a time - one hour at a time if you need to when it gets rough. Forever can take care of itself.

If you can stick this out I absolutely promise you it gets easier and easier the longer you go on with your quit. The first days and weeks are tough, there's no denying it, but keep focused, keep going, you'll soon start to feel the benefits. And be proud, you deserve it!

The longer you go on with the quit the more you will realise that there's nothing to miss. Just because we associated smoking with happiness, sadness, boredom, worry, celebration, holiday, stress or whatever - the smoking didn't actually make any of them any better. We just build up connections in our brain that need to be broken down, that's all.

You can do this, hang in there!

Helen x
