Hi crowbar, I don't think that's too uncommon - it could be due to clenching the jaw or it could also be because smoking restricts bloodflow to the gums, and when you quit it starts to come back, which I imagine might cause some discomfort.

It might be worth asking your dentist for advice?

Sorry this isn't exactly helpful, perhaps other quitters have some bright ideas for stopping the tooth clenching. The only other thing I can say is that this too shall pass - the early days just unload a suitcase full of symptoms on you I'm afraid. Just keep your eyes on the prize and endure, it's all worth it.

If it is from clenching your teeth. Go buy a mouth piece at the sports store, much cheaper than one from the dentist!

Hurty teeth

Crowbar, My teeth itched like crazy too - I think Helsbelles on the right track about better oxygenation to the gums..

On my last quit my mouth suffered really badly, everything from sore jaws to bleeding gums and ulcers.

What has been said above is true, when you stop smoking the gums start to heal themselves and you get tender, new skin. I found the pain in my jaws was from clenching too, it does go but if its really bad then do as someone above suggested and buy a gum guard from a sports shop.

Best of luck
