Hi Noodlez,

I don't know about social phobia, but I do know that smoking increases anxiety. I had permanent stomach butterflies when I smoked, but when I was quit they stopped.

Hope that helps,

Zoe xx

Well done on Day 3 Noodlez,

Great achievement. Nicotine is a stimulant therefore I s'pose too much of the stuff will cause palpatations/anxiety...I smoked once whilst wearing a patch and started having heart plapatations and had to go home from work. Yeah stupid, but I had no idea. So smoking in theory may cause your anxiety, some people may be also be more sensitive to nicotine. Who knows, the only way you will know is if you stay stopped and see if your anxiety levels decrease.

Good luck with your quit, day 3 is hard for some so you're doing brilliant.

This was touched on in a thread the other day - can't remember which one, a few people were commenting on how much calmer they felt after quitting than when they were smoking. Personally I cannot believe how calm I am now compared to how I used to feel when I was smoking.

Thanks it really helps :)

i actually researched a bit and i ****ing found it :D

In the research they found that the risk of developing agoraphobia, generalized anxiety disorder, is high in teenagers who smoke at least a pack of cigarettes a day.

defined as a morbid fear of having a panic attack or panic-like symptoms in a situation from which it is perceived to be difficult (or embarrassing) to escape. These situations can include, but are not limited to, wide-open spaces, crowds, or uncontrolled social conditions" a fear for a panic a attack!!!! just like i have at presentations?

Hi Noodlez,

Well done on hanging in there and doing so good :)

I had no idea that smoking caused anxiousness and those horrid stomach butterflies... I dont know if it was the smoking that caused the those feelings in me, but now that it has been highlighted, I do feel better and not so nervous about things...

Thank you :) *hugs*
