Ok so it's now day 13.... I feel worse this second week than I did the first week

I keep thinking how I could just smoke one a day and I know I could stick to that just one!!! I haven't smoked though!!!

I stopped quickly as it was a health scare and now my chest is clearer I think it would be ok, I feel like I didn't get to enjoy my last smoking days and things like that....I didn't prepare myself!!

Omg I need to stop making excuses!!!

ha ha ha Cazz....you sound just like me. I have a bad chest and had to give up as it was just too painful to smoke. This morning I kept reasoning with myself that I didn't have "that last relaxing cigarette". You know the sort, where you get your quitting head on in a relaxing atmosphere (in the garden with the sun shining etc). Well I didn't get to have my last fag this time and now I'm feeling that little bit better, I keep thinking..."oooh I'll just have that last cigarette and say goodbye to the fags properly".

How stupid would that be, I'm on Day 11, I can't just throw that all away. I'll just be back to smoking, I know...cos I've had that "last cigarette" too many times now. That last cigarette is an illusion, you'll crave another one no matter what the setting of that last one is.

My lungs are feeling better already (now I've quit and got antibiotics) lets not spoil what we've accomplished so far. Well done on your quit, Allen Carr is the biz.

Thanks Lisa.... It's nice to have someone understand how I feel :) x

Also as Allen Carr says there never really is a right time! His book has helped me a lot but I also didn't get to smoke through it as I started reading a couple of days after giving up!... This is another thing the nicotine monster keeps shouting at me "just smoke and then read the Allen Carr book through again, that way the book will work better"...

Need to get a pill invented that takes smoking out of my mind.........I just can't stop thinking!!!!

well done for getting so far:) The first 2 weeks are the toughest. Get through those and it starts getting so much easier. And the "little monster" is gasping for his last breaths!!!

Hi Cazz - I stopped because of a chest infection about 10 years ago, and didn't smoke for 11 weeks. I know just what you mean - and I kept on making excuses for myself until eventually I gave in. As soon as I'd had that first cigarette I was full of remorse and self-hatred, but the monster was back, and before long I was back to 20+ a day.

It's taken me all this time to summon up the strength, determination and motivation to try again. Don't waste the good work so far - just keep trying to make sure your head, as well as your lungs, stays clear!

Well done and keep going!

Hi Cazz,

Well done -13 whole days without poisoning yourself...harsh, but true! I'm on day 16 and have found the last couple of days a struggle. Sleeping and exercise has helped - anything really, just to keep the mind off of 'just one'.

The nicotine is out of the system now so it's the battle with the habit that we're winning against at the moment! Keep with it and keep reading all the posts on here.

Sending you positive thoughts, that'll hopefully replace some of the smoking ones...

Donna :)

Caz, I didn't read the book whilst smoking either. An hour earlier I'd snapped my last ciggies as I was in agony trying to smoke them. I then thought I'd read Alan Carrs book (given to me by a friend and languishing for months on my bookshelf). I only realised a short way through that you were still mean't to be smoking. It doesn't matter Caz the principles of the book are still the same whether you smoked through it or not.

Smoking is an addiction plain and simple, no matter how we like to dress it up with excuses and myths. That's why it's so hard to give up. But we're doing it, bit by bit. The fact that loads of exsmokers on this website say it'll get easier and easier proves you can be a happy ex/non smoker with time. I too wish there was a happy pill, but I whole heartedly think that when we get through this we will understand ourselves and other people a whole lot better than we did before and that is never a bad thing.

Keep with it.

Hi Cazz

I know how you feel. Just one cigarette! BUT as we know it will lead to another and another and another. You'll be back wanting to stop again and that will be worse than what you're going through now.

Try not to think I will never smoke again..just think I will not smoke TODAY. It's much more reasonable and manageable. It gives you a goal that you can celebrate.

Gradually the thoughts of smokings WILL diminish and cease. Imagine your friends and family who have never smoked. How do they cope with life? Probably perfectly well.

I have a list of people I know who have quit smoking...it really helps me focus. If they can do it, so can I ..and so can you.

Be positive

Thanks everyone so so so much for all your lovely positive replies!!!!!! :D

This forum really has been so helpful, have been reading through posts today and truly am grateful for it being here and the support is super!!!

Monster inside me is still nagging away but I haven't given in again and looking forward to another night with a box of Mikados :)

I have also worked out I would of smoked at least 200 smokes by now if I hadnt given up which has given me a bit of a boost, just gotta keep reminding myself it will get easier in time.........

And Elizabeth I do think the people I know that are non smokers do actually cope with life better than the smokers ..........This weed shouldn't be legal

Thanks again everyone :) xxxxxx
