Day 5, Not killed anyone yet....

Hi All,

New to forum & my first post!

I usually read lots of stuff on Forums and never actually join or write anything but just thought today, to hell with it, am going to join and write stuff this time!

Stopped smoking 5 days ago and going strong, have stopped smoking with my husband and we've both made it to day 5 without killing anyone or eachother, MAJOR ACHIEVEMENT, on my part anyway:D

We're stopping as we're going for IVF and they wont give it to us if we dont stop smoking, lose weight bla bla bla :) so unfortunately cannot give in to eating millions of cakes, chips, crisps and sweets etc! like any normal person does;) as have to lose 9 lbs also

Ive 5 weeks to lose the weight and ive also to keep my motivation up for stopping smoking so any advice would be great:)

At the minute im gymin' it every night to get rid of the excess anger and again "not kill anyone". Im chewing sugar free gum and following a diet plan (which ive been on for over a year now anyway - lost over 3 stone, yay!) so total life change for me, all for the better hopefully.

Any advice and motivation etc would be great!

Hiya andiebaby...really well done on stopping smoking and losing 3 stone in weight. Trying for a family is an excellent reason to quit!

It took us 3 years to conceive with our baby...and I totally lay the problem down to my cigarette smoking. I gave up for 3 months in desperation in Nov 09 and voila got pregnant. Unfortunately I went back to the ciggies which is why I'm here now on Day 9. A couple of friends of mine also got pregnant soon after they gave up. Cigarette smoking hugely affects fertility in men and women, you and your hubby are doing the most single thing that will boost fertility no end.

Anyways didn't mean to lecture just wanted to say giving up fags DOES help. You can do it, you've already done 5 days!. I do find this forum and the lovely people using it are amazing and have really helped with my quit.

Hi Lisa,

Thank you very much:)

Its great to know that you stopping helped you conceive and that it could possibly work for me too!

Its weird too that it doesnt feel like a lecture one bit from you as you're an ex smoker lol

Im hopeful that stopping smoking will help, especially if me and hubby can both stop.

My husband and i have fought every night this week lol. First two days he wanted to kill me, last two days ive wanted to kill him. hopefully tonight with it being friday an all we'll not want to kill eachother:D

Looking forward to being on these forums to hear what people have to say about how it affects everyday life. Just reading the posts is great for motivation. I love seeing people overcome the little things that only an ex-smoker would understand!

Welcome to the site Andy. Kudos for you for 'doing the double' as they say, of weight loss and quitting the fags.

Hang on to the thought that if you keep going like you're going now then a) the quitting thing will get easier and easier and b) you will feel FANTASTIC, better than you've felt in years!

You have great reasons to motivate you, and you're doing great. Just keep taking it one day at a time.

Aw, thanks so much:) already loving the support.

Actually was pretty close earlier, had my first real test!

Got a parking ticket! £60 or £30 if paid within 14 days. Gutted, really wanted to smoke when i got that, snot fair. lol. Anyway, stayed pretty calm and didnt smoke so that's the main thing, lucky the traffic warden was nowhere in sight though! xx

Keep on keepin' on

Andie welcome, and well done. The support on here is really great. I am very cynical about such things, especially when I want a fag! But all the folks on here really help.

Hi Andie

You sound like you already have great motivation and fantastic determination.

The end result will be worth any stress you might go through...keep that goal in mind during those bad moments.

LOADS of luck to you and your husband
