So, here we are again...

Finished a packet last night and hadn't bought any more, so have decided to give it another go.19 hours and counting. Not going v well. Although I don't have any thoughts that I want a cigarette as such, my head is pounding, legs are very wobbly, feel cold and very shaky.

I endured 4 days of this last time before I gave up. It would be so easy to go down the shop now, but I think I might try a 'quiet Life' tablet instead.

Hang tough - the nicotene withdrawal will be over in a couple of days.

Did you look into any of the anxiety-related advice from your last post? I hope some of it was helpful.

Hope it goes really well for you. We're all here if you need us!

Thanks for your replies. I'll certainly look into the hypnotherapy thing at some point. Strangely enough there is a hypnotherapist in our village - currently asking round to see if anyone has actually been to him.

Anxiety meds are not really an option because of very bad past experiences and also because I have had an allergic reaction to every prescription med I have had in the last five years!

This sounds ingenuous, but is this standard for nicotine withdrawal? I'd always assumed that I didn't actually get any withdrawal symptoms because I'm never short tempered or snappy and because I have smoked less than 10 cigarettes a day for the last 7 years. I read somewhere that if you can get through the day on 7 cigarettes or less you are not pyhsically addicted...

I'm confused.

Hi there.

I think given how you're feeling it's safe to say that even though you didn't smoke a huge amount, you are addicted.:) (sorry!)

I don't/didn't get the snappy bad tempered thing, I get tired and sleepy. Basically we're all different and we're going to react differently.

Do try and stick with it. As Helsbelles says it's only a few days and all the nicotine will be out of your system. Then its just a case of beating a habit. Easy to write I know, but given how few yoiu were smoking it shold be reasonably easy. Look at when you smoked and what triggered that and work out ways to combat that.

For example if you always had a fag with a coffee, then try drinking tea instead for a few weeks.

Good luck!

I don't know about 'standard' but it's not at all uncommon. Lots of quitters report symptoms similar to flu in the first few days.

The good news is, after 72 hours or thereabouts you're free of nicotene, and it's all about overcoming the mental addiction.

Just take it one hour at a time. After you get through every hour, give yourself a big woop, big up yourself, eat a biscuit or do something nice, because you're doing great!
