Day 36 and I'm miserable. I know I should be happy and that 36 days is a fantastic achievement but I'm craving so bad for a cig.

Have a look at this advert from 1951...

You've got to hand it to cigarette advertisers they were experts at the subconscious!

Look how happy Jane is, intelligent too.

Even non-smokers can get the impression that they're missing out on the pleasures of cork-tipped minors...:rolleyes:

The other interesting thing is that even back in the 50's clearly there were those who recognised that smoking wasn't good. It was worrying the manufacturers enough that they had to combat it through advertising!

Day 36 is a great achievement (I'm just 4 days behind you). Try to figure out the real reason you're miserable. It can't be physical craving. It's gotta be false "pleasant" memories. That's what I still get from time to time. Remember all the reason for why you quit. Remember why you are "here".....

if it was a good idea to cave then i wouldn't be envying you right now, keep on and fight your way through the craving, your doing great!

instead of thinking about smoking, why not look for ways to fight your way out of the clutches of the nicodemon? even though i hate exercise with a passion i have to say it is a good way to put some happy chemicals back in your head, my current method is ten sit-ups to kick start a happy frome of mind, may sound a little strange but i really do find it works!

if that doesn't work for you well we are all different, try asking your non-smoker friends what they do to cheer themselves up - or of course the forum crew are full of good ideas in that department, though i have notice a certain bias towards food :D

Yes 36 days is a fantastic achievement and you should be well proud of yourself. Do you really want to smoke? I don't think so or you would not have lasted 36 days. Is it a crave? again I don't think so a crave will last a couple of minutes.

Around a month or more you can get depressed and think it's craving. Something is missing from your life and your brain and body are telling you, they want it back.

I was coming home tonight and I drove past this guy I know painting the outside of a shop. In his right hand he had a paintbrush and in his left hand he had a cigarette. Just for a few seconds I suddenly wanted to do that, not because I wanted a cig it was because it was something I would have done when I smoked. I would have worked on something while smoking a fag, I believe this is what's happening to you. The triggers, the times you would smoke and now you can't because you've stopped and this could be making you think you are craving. I went through it and there's probably many on here who went through the same.

You have come a long way, be determinded as time goes on you will be put through tests but you will find these tests get easier to pass.

Thanks for the replies. You're all correct in what you say and I can relate to everything written.

I am not craving, I just thought I was. You've put me right. Need to keep busy and do other things to keep my mind off them.

well done wigbri, distraction sounds good, when we feel miserable we need to look at the big picture, look weeks, months and maybe even years into the future and see the posibilties, either 'smoker me' with lots of smoker problems, or 'non-smoker' me living life to the full, we can all do it, and you;ve just taken another very important step in the right direction, and by posting on here you've helped me out too, :)
