I'm chuffed to be honest .... but I've been a bit of a wus in that I have been out with friends an only had one drink. I still don't trust my self with booze. Anyho I used to drink larger (I sound like such a lady ha) but I just can't anymore it's just way way to tempting. So I'm gonna start drinking something else, but what? I've got a big works night out on friday, so any ideas?

Years ago I took to drinking Gin and Tonic because I didn't like it so would only sip at it.

Great plan for a while... till I got a taste for G&T!:D

I do find that since giving up I drink more (when I let myself drink) which is not good! I think it's cos I'm not doing anything with my hands/mouth (NO rude suggestions boys). Hence I've turned into a bit of a cheap date or drunken slob depending on your view point!

Good luck!

can i offer a suggestion?

pernod. the anniseed tase is supposed to have a similar effect to mints. you could always try creme de menthe which is minty but...ick!

pernod and blackcurrent or lemonade was recommended by a friend who recently quit as a good taste distaction.

hope this helps..let me know for when i get to that point!

Well it sounds like you are trying to take steps to change. this is never an easy thing so be prepared for some setbacks. Some things you could drink are orange juice and grenadine. You could also drink a ginger ale and tonic. These still feel like "social" drinks. Give them a try.

Well done, I am normally a lager girl but it just doesn't taste nice without a fag so I am stuck at the moment too. 6 weeks is great though :D

Cheers All

I think I have found it Sloe Gin and bitter lemon (sloe peddler) it's yum, but may have no teeth left, very sweet. I will try the 0% larger or normal cider (it's nearly summer). The main aim is not to get to drunk and have a sly fag. I can do this. I will let you know how I get on.

PS G&T & Tequila days phases are over, I can't go there. (was good what I can remember).

Thanks again all:D

I'd favour vodka, lime and soda because it's a long drink without being massively alcoholic, and it tastes vaguely fresh and healthy.

At the end of the day, give yourself a good talking to before you go out drinking, remind yourself of the reasons, tell yourself that you can get past this trigger, and you'll be fine. As long as you don't get completely plastered, that is!

Have fun x
