Long Term NRT use

I thought this would be the best place to ask this. Does anyone use NRT that has been using it for 6-9 months plus or longer? What do you use and have you been trying to get off it?

Sorry, not I but I thought I would reply as its an interesting one! I quit and used patches but I found it messed with my head mentally so weaned myself off after a few weeks. I used an old method employed by a previous member called BB who advised to cut a slither (sliver??)((small bit!)) off each day or week to wean yourself off slowly and it worked pretty darn well.

If I was still on it 9 months down the line i'd be getting off them as soon as I would say!

My experience was that I was using the Nicotine nasal spray for about 6 months before I managed to get off it. Getting off it was very hard as its the strongest form of NRT and gives you such a good hit of nicotine. I used it in a bad way as well as instead of using it as and when I had cravings I simply used it as a replacement for cigs, i.e., when I woke up, after meals, mid-morning, I used it all day and was getting through a bottle in about 3-4 days and at £20 a go, that had to stop!

Soon as I got off it I noticed lots of new benefits such as increased appetite and being able to put a bit of weight on better. Glad to say that this quit attempt I’ve been off nicotine nearly 3 weeks now :)

My old boss stopped smoking and replaced it completely with nicotenell. Still chewing away the last time I saw him. That'll make 11 years

He was always an odd one anyway and I've not noticed any differences in him apart from being fatter :)

Nasal spray - is it odourless, Dave?

Wow, 11 years on the gum! Thats crazy! Ive heard a few cases of 3-4 years on the gum but 11's mental. All so they dont have to go through a few weeks of cravings. Kinda a shallow victory over cigs.

Re the spray, its not quite odourless buts its not a strong smell either. Has kind of a nice smell actually. I used to use it at work and a person next to me noticed it and said it smelt nice. They would have to be sitting quite close to you to notice it though.

..and just to rub a great big pile of salt in the wounds, cravings aren't down to nicotine so all that's happened is that one habit has evolved into another and the tobacco companies still benefit.

Funny old world isn't it?? :D
