Hi everyone,
I'm on day 8 of my quit using patches and I've noticed a strange metallic-like taste in my mouth. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Don't worry, your taste buds are getting back to real life. It's a good sign, one of the benefits of quitting.
Lorraine
Thanks Lorraine. It's not a major problem or anything, it's just a bit odd.
I got that on patches as well as off them... as Lorraine said, I think its just the healing process, and it does go away
I suppose its like when you have a scab/scar healing and it itches for a bit before it actually gets better.
Cheers! (tea mug in hand) - to your taste buds healing!

I'll drink a mug of tea to that Sofia. Cheers :).
Ah Yes I remember it well, I actually had a rust / bloody smell up my nose and tasted it too, went on for quite a few weeks, I asked a nurse friend of mine who said it's very common when quitting as all our bits and pieces are healing! Got it the other day also when I felt a bit congested like I was coming down with a cold etc.....
It's not pleasant tho!
You go Cap'n (tips my hat to you!)

Thanks Jane.
It's very reassuring to hear that others have experienced the same thing. I haven't had the rust/bloody smell and taste thing though. That does sound unpleasant. As for congestion, I've had a little - like a very mild cold - but nothing really to speak of. I find it interesting that everyone seems to have a different set of symptoms through stopping smoking.
You're doing great too Jane. Stay strong!!

Yes I had that at the beginning as well strange !!! now my breath smells like a badgers bum ...Halitosis setting in me thinks
Thought it was just me, I have the blood/rust/metal taste too. Im worried that my breath smells, its horrible, but a small price to pay : ) It cant be related to the patches as I quit CT.
Hi Guys
I went up to see the Nurse on Monday because i too have felt like my mouth was a sewer, i did not want to kiss my OH for the fear that i smelt and tasted awful even though i have not touched a cig 24th Oct, anyhoooo to cut a long story short the Nurse smelt my breath and NOPE its all ok, its just me and my imagination.
My mouth always tastes like metal or bloody yet there is nothing wrong. I have been to the Dentist and NOPE nothing wrong there either. I think we have just become more aware of it and that now our bodies are repairing themselves we will notice more of these things.
Im even on antibiotics because i have a constant lump or feeling of a lump in my chest/throat. We will all get there in the end just dont thinkif you go back to the cigs that it will all go cos it wont.
lol
Having metallic taste in your mouth might be the result of a particular illness that you are facing. it in mouth can be an indicator of certain illnesses that can range from diseases. One common form of parageusia is a metallic taste of food.
I'm glad I found this post! Although I'm on a step down with NRT + smoking reduction approach (I have reduced my smoking by 87.5% in three weeks with no torture or difficulty) but I now have a VILE taste in my mouth constantly... I thought it was just me or there was something wrong! I hope it goes away soon as it makes me gag! Not a nice side effect to quitting I have to say, and I'm always shoving a mint in my mouth - hahaha not to hide the cigarette smell anymore, but incase everyone else can smell what I'm tasting!!!
Chuffed to find this thread. I was getting a bit worried.
Just passed 3 weeks CT after a 25 yr habit and so far all is going well.
I'm getting that horrible blood like taste and lump in the chest. Makes me feel like my body is kicking out all the gunk that's been accumulating in there.
I also see this thread is 6yr old, so I hope all are well and succeeded with quitting the demon habit.
Hello Taff, glad to see you with us. Why not post on the main page and introduce yourself? I don't think any of the above are with us anymore as the thread is from the old no smoking day site, which doesn't exist now.
Well done on getting to 3 weeks!
Wow this is an old thread! Welcome to the NSD community Taff25yr and congratulations on 3 weeks quit. Great job! I'm not sure about the "blood" taste or lump in your chest but any causes for concern should be checked with youe gp - just to be on the safe side. Look forward to seeing more posts from you on how your getting on.
Huge welcome Taff25yr and huge well done on 3 weeks, that is great! I too quit cold turkey over 8 months ago and I am now at the best I have been in my quit.
As advised previously, this post is over 6 years old so not likely to get a reply. Perhaps, create a new post telling your story with your quit date for your milestone badge
With regards the metallic taste and lump in your chest, this could be likely to your throat cilia re-growing and your lungs clearing but if in pain get it checked out....
Look forward to your introduction and reading your progress..
