Well today i have officially been a non smoker for 4 months.
I've had a lot of ups and downs to get this far, but looking on the bright side, i'd say it gets easier day by day. I think about smoking less and i don't crave so much and when i do it's pretty mild.
Saying that, I don't think an ex smoker can ever bring their guard down. Nicotine has such a strong mental grip on all of us that its so easy to fall back into the trap if you are not careful.
Don't get complacent. Take it day by day at the beginning. Then step up to week by week. Month by month gets easier and that's just one of the traps. When you start thinking that quitting is easy, that's when you can let your guard slip and that's all the nicodemon is waiting patiently for.
Yes, it gets easier and thank god for that, because getting this far has been one of the hardest things i can ever done.
Good luck with your quits!

Good news James, four months is a decent time and time to see improvements with reduced craves and wants. Congrats to you
Remarkable really, how time goes and 4 months ? more congrats to you
I feel your right and that most ex smokers will always need some level of focus and keeping up with their guard.
Also thankfully and finally it does get easier and the craves and wants far less.
It is hard but really becomes so manageable. I'm almost at a year quit and do have days without the thought of a smoke even fleetingly tapping despite the OH smoking a couple or so most evenings in the house.
Even when those wants/craves/memories pop in my mind they are easily ignored and soon vanish.
All the best to you James with a great continuing quit for you
Congratulations James. You are so right about the complacency. Coming on here is a good reminder though and it does keep getter easier and easier. I always describe quitting as one of the most difficult things i've ever had to voluntarily do, but I am so glad I did it.
Well done James, I am a bit in front of you at nearly 11 months quit, but I do remember that it was about 3/4 months quit before I felt confident that I had no more real cravs to smoke and as you say we must never let our guard down. However well done in reaching this mile stone.
