Just thought I would pop in, Im coming up for 18 months and didnt even realise it was that long til I just added it up then.
I completed a 5k run on Sunday and have nine weeks to go til a 10k that I have been training for since March.
I also decided that I needed to do something about the weight I gained throughout my quit and have just lost my first stone.
For all those times when I though a fag would make me feel better I am glad I told myself it wouldnt change anything. Being smoke and nicotine free makes me feel better, running in the sunshine makes me feel better and now getting back in my size 12 jeans makes me feel better than any stinky cigarettes.
Stick with your quits because it is soooo worth it

Keep going with it, honestly the weight does come off at some point.
I was doing 3+ classes per week and couldnt shift it but as soon as I started running it started to come off. Its not for everyone I know but have built up really slowly from 1min run 1 min walk and got to 5k on sunday. I was nearly crying when I got to the end with all my family shouting me on!!
I'm thinking I'm going to have to defer my GNR place til next year (will be the first time in 5 yrs I don't do the Great North), as leg still isn't good and weight gain hasn't helped.
Good on you again Sam and you are so right, running is the real fat beater!
Im now officially one "those" ex smokers who walks around gagging at the smell of smoke and generally being annoying!! I hate it when Im on my lunch in town and someone lights up in front of me and all their nasty fag smoke blows in my face. Arrhhh I hate that!!
I have just started walking... Its suprising how much more you can do when you're nice to your Body and yes, its been lovely walking in the sun... everything is fresh as a daisy ... here's to another 18 month
