Hi

Oh, there was me thinking you were talking about a radio station or something like. Sorry. I get it now..... that's not good to suffer from and deal with. I can see why you would need good positive distractions to help divert your attentions when that flares up.

A pretty good day thanks. Cold but no craves which is good. I did have passing moments when I spent some time gardening. After doing certain jobs, I would have had a smoke whilst looking for the next chore or admiring my work ;) but not this time. I actually got more done than planned due to not having smoke breaks every half hour

How did you spend your day?

Er let me see cooking cleaning more cooking and then took son home went for walk in the village but blood* cold out there tonight funny not too bothered by no cig but used to grabbing one when things like this get bad old habbit but thats why we give them up so we can feel better you are doing brilliant y did u quit if you dont mind me asking

nsd_user663_5920 profile image

It is cold isn't it? I have no heating where my pc is so I doubt I'll be around form more than 20 mins or so.

It was nice doing some gardening but I did wrap up and take a flask of coffee out with me to warm up with.

I quit originally due to dental work. My dentist advised me that to stop smoking for 6 - 8 weeks was sensible to help the healing process. I figured if I could stop for that length of time then I'd carry on and just see.... having got through the first few weeks, I'm dammed if I' ever doing that again. Crazy times which I will not repeat if I can help it.

I always knew the health risks and the cost wasn't an issue with roll-ups so scare stories and pics never put me off..... I took the risks and I hope I'll be fortunate. It's reading peoples stories here, like Jackie from Scotland, that inspire me more to continue with my quit. This is my first real attempt and hopefully, my one and only.

I still miss smoking, not as much, but on some level I probably always will.

Who knows..... maybe I'll start again in my 70's;)

Yea Im with u on that once done dont want to have to go through that again and sometimes best just to try and forget it lol wheres you comp in the shed LOL I cant wait for the summer and get into the garden and get some real fresh air but been jet washing paths etc so it slowly starting to be a possibility I stopped as I put in my poem Xmas morning on a spur of the moment are you in scotland loads are LOL

nsd_user663_5920 profile image
nsd_user663_5920

Yes my pc is in a shed down the garden, hence the extreme cold my hands are suffering from currently :D

I'm not from Scotland but yes, there are lots here who are. I'm from Gloucestershire which is a little warmer thank goodness.

I tend to divert craves of an evening (and warm up during these cold past weeks) with a lovely hot bubble bath and a good book. If I read in the living room then it still seems strange to not smoke. It takes the edge off my read. However, I never smoked in the bath (actually I did, but that was years ago pre children) so I can read there (hopefully not drop the book) and not miss not smoking :)

How do you divert/replace the habit smokes?

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

I know you will laugh but I am into self hypnosis as I totally believe that it is not the nicotine that is what we crave but the actual ritual of having a cig so by mind over matter thats the only way for me and up to now it works but it was a distraction when th FM and RA strike but I will have to find other ways of dealing with those how come comp in shed not in house or is that a bit nosy I have Lap top so in lounge snug LOL X Hub from Glost

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

and like you I am a absolutely addicted reading in fact

Choice Ciggys / Book then books will win every time

nsd_user663_5920 profile image
nsd_user663_5920

The ritual smokes are the ones that cross my mind now. I don't miss the after dinner smokes any more and the washing up gets done quicker sometimes which is good. Hypnosis can be good, even great with some things, I wouldn't laugh at it. Repetitive positive affirmations help to, but I get distracted and forget to repeat often enough :)

I like to replace negative habits with positive ones. I try to fill the 'hole' with something good and not dwell on the hole.

I work from home and my office used to be in the house but every time I went to the loo I'd see my desk and paperwork and end up working evenings and weekends etc. So, I had an office put in the garden and now when I'm in the house, I see no work to pull me in. I could use OH or sons but I prefer my own.

So, how you feeling now? Have things eased up for you? Does your sleep get effected much? Daft question I suppose :)

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

Only on really bad days dont know bout you but I read in bed and if a book is really good I do find it hard to put the book down, but yes the fibro and the rheums]atoid do sometimes stop me sleeping well but you get use to it have had fibro 20+ years and was diagnosed with rheumatoid 6 years ago and refuse to take pain killers but do take muscle relaxants when desperate people have worse and I will be glad if thats the worst LOL you have kids I have 5 sons Wow I hear u say LOL

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

have you noticed supervillain is filling up the posts LOL tomorrow all the new posts will be him I think and he will be knackered all day

nsd_user663_5920 profile image
nsd_user663_5920

I bet your pain threshold is really high. If what you considered to be an average day 'pain/discomfort' was suddenly loaded on to a person who was otherwise fit and pain free, they would probably be floored for a few minutes.

I have 2 sons, 19 and 17. As different at chalk and cheese. My OH is one of 5 sons. Their mother was a very wise woman who made sure all her sons could cook and sew competently...... means I get an easy time of cooking the weekends ;)

I find a really good book impossible to put down. I've got up and taken myself back down to the living room, made some midnight snacks, lit a fire and finish a book. Then taken the day off :)

I still miss that ritual smoke at the end of a book. I would see how many pages left to read and roll up. I need to think of a suitable replacement for that habit smoke.

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

Suppose in that respect I am lucky as read in bed at night but funny never smoked in bed at night also lucky that OH doesnt and hsnt ever smoked

Yes I can understand your partner mum all my lads are excellent cooks as they had to learn I was chef 2 sons trained as chefs so runs in family only 2 of them married think thats my fault as made the dependent on no one , what do you do let me guess accountant??????

nsd_user663_5920 profile image
nsd_user663_5920

 What made you guess accountancy? spooky

I'm not an Accountant but I do the accounts for business that OH, I and one other own. PAYE and Yr End stuff I have someone do but the rest is straight forward enough. Boring even ;) I do it for our own business, I wouldn't work in accounts as an employee.

My OH wishes he'd trained as a Chef and he's good (leaves a horrible mess everywhere) and does enjoy experimenting and we grow a lot of our own veg and herbs which is rewarding. I so respect a man that not only can cook, but enjoys it too. Our eldest is good and cooks a lot of his own stuff from fresh whilst at Uni. Good for you for teaching all of yours to cook and look after themselves.

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

Ok you work with books you are over 5.4 you have bown hair which is not dark brown so to me your fair haired and greeny hazel eyes at first thought bluey grey cause you dont mind the cold and like water you are a summer baby I think but correct me on that one possibly a cancerian or Im completely reading you wrong

nsd_user663_5920 profile image
nsd_user663_5920

Bluey grey eyes and I'm a water sign - Scorpio. I love all seasons but spring and autumn are my top two.

So, what about you? Height, eye colour and star sign?

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

funny I said to partner shes water sign so had to choose scorpio or cancer but thought I was getting vibes from OH hes scorp Me Im Capricorn Blue Eyes Light brown hair 5.3 and I Love spring and autumn is youe hub winter baby? he is so patient and caring and is into sport maybe motor

nsd_user663_5920 profile image
nsd_user663_5920

I can't type in these gloves very well.

OH is Capricorn, Dec 25th and does enjoy watching sports.... not really very athletic though good at Badminton. Enjoys driving and motors as does our youngest son. Both sons are summer babes, July and Aug, Cancer and Leo. I clash with the son born in Aug. We are to alike.

My OH is patient and caring most of the time.... just as well. I do test his patience at times. He likes things to be logical and orderly, I don't.

Fancy you and your OH being Scorpio and Capricorn too. Are you orderly and like things in certain ways which your OH then wants to mess up and have a more random higgledy piggledy approach to things?

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

dont know what happened there wrote post and it vanished

do you want to move or hubby???

nsd_user663_7469 profile image
nsd_user663_7469

like things in there place but sometimes they get lost Lol sorry if im keeping you up especially if you are going to be busy tom

nsd_user663_5920 profile image
nsd_user663_5920

I do that sometimes..... write a post and it vanishes. Sometimes I can 'back page' and it comes back but not always.

I will move furniture about but then move it back...... He likes certain things neat and tidy in a certain order.... if it's his tools, then fine, but if they are mine, then my sense of order clashes with his.

I like flowers and plants just placed in a rough order - he will space them out exactly - but not as bad as my mother who is a Capricorn also. Her flowers look like soldiers all in neat spaced rows.

I loose more things as I refuse to put things away in their 'proper' place.

I've not minded staying up, it's been fun and I hope it's been a worthwhile distraction for you -)

But I am cold and tired and can't avoid work tomorrow so I am taking myself off to bed now.

Sleep well yourself and have a great week,

Night,

Pol x
