Giving up -Yeah

Today is going to be my first day with smoking for 20 years.

I’ve never smoked much, down to one rollie a day but want to knock it on the head now.

I’ve made a list of reasons for giving up as suggested:

Improved fitness - marathon

Looks chavvy

Bad example to babies

Don't want to die prematurely

More time

Taste/ smell

Circulation - cold hands/ feet

Challenge - achievement

I started reading the Alan Carr book but it’s so badly written I gave up after the first 100 pages.

I’ve got the Paul McKenna sessions on my IPod.

I’ve got some nicotine gum as well.

No excuses anymore.

Wish me luck!

Hi Timewarp :)

Well done deciding to atop even if you only have one a day

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathising with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

This link is good for the psychological part of quittingwhyquit.com/whyquit/A_Sympt...

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here

Love

Marg xx

Hi and welcome. Those are all great reasons you have there, if you are having a moment of weakness refer back to them it will help, also reading the links in peoples signitures will help and post often to let us know how you are getting on.

Well done on making the choice not to smoke, keep it up one day at a time.

Thanks for your comments.

As well as the gum, I've just bought some nicotene fre tobacco to see me through the next few days.

This might not be the approach that most recommend but I am pretty confident that I'm never going to smoke anymore nicotine.

I'll let you all know how I get on.

I didn't have smoke any tobacco yesterday, first day for 18 years, I reckon.

I did have a herbal cigarette, and I did have a chew on some niccoine gum. I was surprised by the strength of the hit off the gum, going to have to cut them in half I think.

Anyway, I plan to wean myself off the gum within a week at the very longest, and then worry about the herbal tobacco after that.

Click on your useraname up the top right there, Timewarp. You'll see a pannel (4th down on the right) "Group Memberships". In there click on "join social group".

They are a friendly bunch and it seems to be helpful! This is my first few days on here too and I've been plesantly surprised by how cool and non-judgemental everyone has been about things.
