Hi everyone came across this thread quite by accident when looking for tips on quitting.
I gave up smoking after 30yrs on the 12th Dec smoked about 10 per day so not a heavy smoker but does that really matter! Used the patches until yest, been really ill for a couple of days and not really sleeping that well so left the patches off. Had terrible cravings yesterday but seem ok today
Had a blip on a Xmas night out with friends when I had a puff, was really mad at myself but didnt let it put me off and kept off the evil weed!!!
Good luck to everyone joining in these threads for the New Year, Ive found that forums and reading all the posts are really helpful this time, dont think I would have even looked for something like this the last time I quit!

So if I can stop anybody can, keep it going you're through the starting gate and the winning post is not that far off.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhh! Just wrote a Huuuuuuuuuuuge post and the stupid pc had somehow lost internet connection and I lost the lot:mad::mad::mad:.
Basically it said thanks to all you lovely people who took time to reply to my post, explained a bit about myself and also that I mustve typed in the wrong quit date it was the 16th dec not the 12!!! but still 2 wks 2day and 12 hrs not got time to write it all out again as Im off out to a lovely dinner at my sisters!!

congrats for doing so well already over christmas and New year. If you can do it this time of year your really setting yourself up for success for the rest of the year.
this forum is great and i can safely say that loads (if not all) of us wouldnt be still quit without it and all the great people on board (excuse the pun!)
haha.
well here's to a new year and a new smoke free life for you
This is my 4th attempt to quit inside of 3 years, on this particular quit i'm on now, i searched on google about sleep problems which i later found out from these forums were totaly down to me keeping the patch on at night. It was so obvious a solution but one i'd not seen as i was working so hard on my quit to stay free from nicotine
Anyway, my google brought me to this forum and i joined it. met lots of decent folk.
I'm not far off 6 full calendar months quit now, and i can definitely vouch for these forums for the support the folk who use them give. Makes you realise that quitting smoking needn't be done alone.. and sometimes a 'Well done' is all you need to keep you going with your quit.
Nicely done so far, be really proud of what you've achieved and keep this up throughout this year.. you can already say that you quit smoking last year, so thats gotta be good!
Hi everyone Had a great day yesterday was out all day at my sisters for New Years dinner. Was a bit worried about it as there were gonna be a lot of smokers there and that is just a nightmare when its a house party. However I managed to stay out of the kitchen (why would I have to go in there if not for a smoke)!! so avoided temptation and stayed smoke free for another day!!
Enjoying going through this thread and finding out evryone else`s experiences while giving up. Im still most definately grieving for my fags..but Im fighting very hard to get past it. Feels like its still in the lead a bit as its occupying so much of my thoughts all the time! Read one of the links in one of your signatures "demon" I think it was called, every word was soo true felt like I was reading about me.
Hi everyone, hope you are all doing ok! still going strong but I am struggling a bit just now, maybe its because I came of the patches a bit too early  But I just dont think I could do the chewing gum or the inhalator thing as that would make me feel like I was smoking and the whole idea of quitting is to get away from that !!
Just noticed that No Smoking Day this year is on my birthday so that is now my goal to stay stopped till then. When I acheive that I will set a new goal in maybe another 3 months time. Maybe smaller goals will seem easier to acheive
Hi everyone just wanted to pop on and say that Im still quit!! 1month 6 days 20hrs 11mins 37 seconds!!!! Had some rough times but really not anything that I couldnt handle! Been grumpy and crabbit but my OH reckons that Im less crabbit that usual:rolleyes:
Have saved an absolute fortune not just buying them but all those silly trips to the shops that you end up buying more than you meant too, only been going shopping twice a wk now and hardly buying anything,
Downside I have put on a bit of weight but will tackle that in Feb, one thing at a time !!
Hey great to see you are still going, so many come on here then disappear and we can only assume the worst. Well done it's great to see you are doing so well but keep more in touch so we know you're doing okay.
You have done really well.
My birthday is the day after your 11th march os a challenge......both of us must still be quit on our birthdays, are you up for it?
I went into the Coop before I came home tonight and bought about 5 items it was less than £5 if I had still been smoking it would have been more than double that. I also believe there has been 25p added to the cost of a packet of fags.
Jack that sounds like a challenge!! Of course Im up for it and hopfully it will be a breeze. I love being a non smoker, hate getting the cravings which are still pretty frequent but I just think to myself och it will be over in 5 mins better than constantly being breathless and wanting to quit!!!!
Have noticed too that its not the first thing I think about in the morning anymore, its maybe 20 mins before I remember that Im quitting (or have quit) though there are times when I forget Ive quit and could easily light up and smoke a whole fag! Will have to shut up coz Im getting a craving even sayin that !
Right Im off to watch celebrity quitters which I recorded earlier to give myself some inspiration and remind myself why I quit in the first place
Celebrity quitters is on every week night at half 7 on channel 5. Following 5 "celebrities" over the course of a month, though the programme is only on for 2 wks. Its helpful watching as it reminds you that you dont want to go through all that rough stuff at the begining again!!
Yeah Jase18/07/09 I was surprised to see chloe Madely on this too, only ever heard about her in the news when she was caught drink driving .... Hardly a claim to fame? More like a claim to shame:o. Wonder what I could do to become famous .......... !
But hey hope she quits smoking coz she is young and would really benefit from it and would all the "celebrities"! I think this is a show that channel 5 should run constantly with new celebs every month. Now that would get the nation off the fags!!
the 180709 to this day i dunno what that date was important for, it sure wasn't my quit date, but it was the date when i'd got through my first week quit smokin Don't think i was thinking straight that week, glad things have changed
Would be nice to see celeb quitters on regularly, but also perhaps do a big brother style programme too where they put 20 quitters in the same house.. now that would be interesting
Just read somthing on another forum about quitting... Its not having that awful feeling that your running out of fags, that panic that you might not have enough for the morning and your gonna have to get in the car, drive to the cash machine, get your hard earned cash out, go to the shops, give the £5.20 over, take the fags home, set them alight, and breath in the six gazzilion poisons, .......... Im just not missing that at all LOL!
Hi everyone just looking at my last post, when I said I hand over my £5.20 for my fags.... It up 2 £5.45 now:eek: Now saved £116 which I havent done anything with just enjoyed that Ive got more money in the bank now!!!!
Mmm I noticed that when the VAT went back up, shops upped the price of fags by alot more than 2.5 percent. Even more glad I've quit now.
I was able to give my fiancee £20 out my wallet to buy new clothes for my daughter this morning. That £20 would have been gone 4 days ago if I was still smoking
to say woo hoo just gone 2 months!! Really cant believe that Ive made it this far, this is the longest Ive ever stopped smoking for since I was about 13. There really is life after fags, I thought my life was gonna be miserable without then and really its not, its just the same, but better
Hi everyone! Into March already hasn`t time flown, Is it just me or has anyone else has terrible wind since they quit smoking? Honestly mine is soooo bad I have to leave rooms, any advice wld be gratefully received!!
Jack.... How are you doing with our challenge? Not long till our birthdays now!!!
OMG...... I have done it ! Im truly amazed that I hav managed to quit smoking for the last 3 months. Its really truly honestly the most amazing thing that I have ever done in my whole life.
Right Im off to bed coz its my birthday and Ive have a few vino callapso`s and I think that`s enough for a Wed night !
